How many Humana Medicare Advantage plans are offered in New Orleans for 2027?

Humana is offering 17 Medicare Advantage plans in Orleans Parish, the parish that contains New Orleans, for plan year 2027. That is one more than the 16 it offered for 2026.

By plan type, the 2027 lineup breaks down into 10 HMO plans and 7 PPO plans. Fourteen of the 17 include Part D prescription drug coverage; three do not. The table below lists every Humana plan available in the parish for 2027, with its type and whether it includes drug coverage.

Plan availability is set at the county (parish) level by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, so the same lineup applies whether your address is in Lakeview, the Marigny or Algiers.

What Special Needs Plans does Humana offer in Orleans Parish for 2027?

Humana's 2027 slate in Orleans Parish includes 6 Special Needs Plans: 5 Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid, and 1 Chronic Condition Special Needs Plan (C-SNP). There are no Institutional SNPs in this group.

The D-SNPs include Humana Dual QMB Only (HMO D-SNP), Humana Dual Select H1951-056 (HMO D-SNP), Humana Gold Plus SNP-DE H1951-057 (HMO D-SNP), Humana Gold Plus SNP-DE H1951-061 (HMO D-SNP), and HumanaChoice SNP-DE H5216-332 (PPO D-SNP). The C-SNP is Humana Gold Plus - Diabetes and Heart (HMO C-SNP). Eligibility rules apply — SNPs are limited to people who meet the plan's specific criteria.

What is new, renamed or leaving for 2027?

In Orleans Parish, no Humana plans are leaving for 2027, one plan is new, and two existing plans are keeping their contracts but changing names.

The new plan is Humana Value Plus H7617-081 (PPO), which includes drug coverage. The two renamed plans are Humana Dual QMB Only (HMO D-SNP), previously called Humana Gold Plus SNP-DE H1951-032 (HMO D-SNP), and Humana Full Access (Regional PPO), previously called Humana Full Access R0110-003 (Regional PPO). A rename does not by itself change benefits, but every renewing plan has its own set of 2027 adjustments. Those are spelled out in your Annual Notice of Change, which plans mail by late September.

How do I check a Humana plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?

Use the Plan Finder at Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Enter your ZIP code, add your prescriptions and your preferred pharmacy, and the tool will show each plan's drug list, estimated costs and provider network.

Three quick steps that save headaches:

1. Pull your Annual Notice of Change for your current plan. It lists what is changing on January 1, 2027. 2. Check the pharmacy and drug list (formulary). A drug's tier can shift year to year, and so can preferred pharmacies. 3. Call your doctors' offices directly and ask whether they will be in-network for the specific 2027 plan you are considering. Online directories can lag.

If you want to compare Humana against other options, Orleans Parish has 8 other Medicare Advantage carriers for 2027, for a total of 67 plans across all carriers.

What is changing in Medicare itself for 2027?

Two Part D numbers are already confirmed by CMS for 2027. The annual out-of-pocket cap on covered Part D drugs rises to $2,400 in 2027 (it is $2,100 in 2026). The maximum Part D deductible a plan can charge rises to $700 in 2027 (it is $615 in 2026). The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33 — that is a formula input CMS uses, not what any specific plan charges.

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those in the fall, usually November. We will not estimate them here.

The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") remains eliminated, so Part D now has three phases: deductible, initial coverage, and catastrophic. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you spread your drug out-of-pocket costs across the calendar year in monthly installments, is still available in 2027 at no extra cost — you have to opt in through your plan.

What happens if I do nothing by December 7, 2026?

If you take no action, your current Medicare Advantage plan renews automatically on January 1, 2027, as long as it is still offered — and in Orleans Parish, all of Humana's 2026 plans are returning for 2027 (some under new names). The changes described in your Annual Notice of Change take effect that day.

If you want to switch, you have two windows. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, for a January 1 start. After that, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31, 2027, and lets people already in a Medicare Advantage plan switch to another MA plan or go back to Original Medicare once.

Frequently asked questions

Does Humana cover all of New Orleans the same way?
Medicare Advantage availability is set by CMS at the county (parish) level, so the Humana plans listed for Orleans Parish are available at any address in the parish. Networks, pharmacies and plan details still vary by plan, so always check a specific plan against your own ZIP code on Medicare.gov.
My Humana plan name looks different on my mail — did my plan leave?
Not necessarily. In Orleans Parish, no Humana plans are leaving for 2027, but two are renamed: Humana Gold Plus SNP-DE H1951-032 is now Humana Dual QMB Only, and Humana Full Access R0110-003 is now Humana Full Access (Regional PPO). The Annual Notice of Change your plan sent explains what, if anything, is actually changing about benefits and costs.
Can I compare Humana to other carriers in New Orleans?
Yes. Orleans Parish has 8 other Medicare Advantage carriers offering plans for 2027, and 67 Medicare Advantage plans in total across all carriers. The Plan Finder at Medicare.gov will show all of them side by side when you enter your ZIP code, drugs and pharmacy.
What if I need help deciding?
Call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or use the comparison tools at Medicare.gov. For plan-specific details — the drug list, the provider network, the Evidence of Coverage — call Humana directly using the number on the plan's page. Open enrollment closes December 7, 2026. Whatever you choose, make the decision with the official 2027 documents in front of you: your Annual Notice of Change, the plan's 2027 formulary, and Medicare's Plan Finder.
