Humana's Boston Medicare Advantage plans for 2027: three leaving, two staying

Boston — Fall 2026. If you have a Humana Medicare Advantage plan in Boston, your Annual Notice of Change is the piece of mail to open first this fall. In Suffolk County, Humana is offering two Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, down from five this year. Three plans are not returning, and no new Humana plans are being added. If one of the three that are leaving is yours, you have until December 7, 2026 to pick coverage that starts January 1.

Key takeaways

  • Humana is offering 2 Medicare Advantage plans in Suffolk County (where Boston is) for 2027, both PPOs with drug coverage; the table below lists them.
  • 3 of Humana's 2026 plans are not returning for 2027, and no new Humana plans are being added — if you're in a plan that's leaving, you must choose another by December 7, 2026.
  • Humana is not offering a Dual, Chronic, or Institutional Special Needs Plan in Suffolk County for 2027.
  • The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 (up from $615 in 2026).

MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent news and education site. We are not Humana, and we are not Medicare. Humana is one of 11 carriers offering Medicare Advantage plans in Suffolk County next year, with 50 plans across all carriers combined.

What Humana is offering in Suffolk County for 2027

Boston is in Suffolk County, which is how Medicare organizes plan availability. For 2027, Humana's lineup here is two Medicare Advantage PPO plans, both of which include prescription drug coverage:

Both of these plans were offered in Suffolk County in 2026 as well. Even so, your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) will spell out any differences for 2027 — premium, deductible, copays, drug tiers, the pharmacy and provider network, and extra benefits can all shift from one plan year to the next. The ANOC arrives by late September.

Humana is not offering any Special Needs Plans — D-SNP, C-SNP, or I-SNP — in Suffolk County for 2027. If you qualify for a Special Needs Plan (for example, because you have both Medicare and MassHealth, or a qualifying chronic condition), you'll want to look at what other carriers in the county offer.

What's not coming back for 2027

Three Humana Medicare Advantage plans that were offered in Suffolk County in 2026 are not returning in 2027:

If one of those is your current plan, Humana will send a non-renewal notice. You will not be automatically moved into one of the two remaining Humana plans; you have to choose. You can:

Because your plan is leaving, you'll also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs into early 2027 if you miss December 7, but it's cleaner to decide during the Annual Enrollment Period.

New Humana plans for 2027

None. No new Humana Medicare Advantage plans are being added in Suffolk County for 2027, and no 2026 plans have been renamed. The lineup is simply smaller than last year's.

How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions

Before you pick anything — Humana or otherwise — run it through the real tools, not a sales brochure:

1. Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code and your drug list. The tool will show every Medicare Advantage and Part D plan available to you in Suffolk County, with your actual yearly drug cost estimate for each one. 2. Your prescriptions. Each plan has its own formulary (drug list), tiers and preferred pharmacies. A drug covered on your 2026 plan might sit on a different tier in 2027, or require prior authorization. 3. Your doctors and hospitals. Call each provider's billing office and ask whether they'll be in-network for the specific plan you're considering for 2027 — not just "Humana." Networks are plan-by-plan, and they can change at the start of a new year. 4. The plan's own documents. The Evidence of Coverage and the provider and pharmacy directories, which the plan posts on its website, are the authoritative source for benefits and network. 5. 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), available 24/7, for personalized help.

Program-level numbers for 2027

A few Medicare figures for 2027 are set, and they apply no matter which plan you end up in:

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, had not been announced as of September 2026. CMS typically publishes them later in the fall.

Important dates

If you do nothing and your current plan is being offered again next year, it renews automatically with the changes shown in the ANOC. If your plan is one of the three Humana plans not returning, doing nothing means you'll land on Original Medicare without drug coverage on January 1 — so this is the year to make an active choice.

Frequently asked questions

I'm in Humana Direct Choice Giveback (PPO) in Boston. What happens on January 1, 2027?
That plan is not being offered in Suffolk County in 2027. Humana will send you a non-renewal letter explaining your options. You need to actively choose a new plan — another Humana plan, a plan from one of the other 10 carriers in the county, or Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan — by December 7, 2026. If you miss that date, a Special Enrollment Period gives you more time, but acting during AEP is simpler.
Does Humana offer a Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) in Boston for 2027?
No. Humana is not offering any D-SNP, C-SNP, or I-SNP in Suffolk County in 2027. If you have both Medicare and MassHealth, other carriers in the county may offer D-SNPs; the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov will show the ones you're eligible for.
How do I check whether my doctor takes a specific Humana plan?
Call your doctor's billing office and ask about the exact plan name — for example, "HumanaChoice Giveback H5216-138 (PPO)" — for the 2027 plan year. You can also check the plan's online provider directory. General statements that an office "takes Humana" aren't enough, because networks are plan-specific and can change on January 1.
Will my prescriptions cost the same in 2027 as they did in 2026?
Not necessarily, even if you stay in the same plan. Formularies, tiers and preferred pharmacies can change each year. What is fixed program-wide is the $2,400 out-of-pocket cap on covered Part D drugs in 2027 and the $700 maximum deductible. Run your drug list through the Medicare Plan Finder to see the 2027 estimate for each plan. ## Where to go next For the full, personalized picture — every plan available at your address, your drug costs, and what your doctors accept — use the Medicare Plan Finder at **medicare.gov** or call **1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)**, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Humana's own website and plan documents are the authoritative source for Humana plan details. The deadline to make a change for January 1, 2027 coverage is **December 7, 2026**.
