Key takeaways

  • Michigan has 181 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 from 18 carriers, but availability is county by county, so compare only the plans offered where you live.
  • All 181 plans for 2027 include drug coverage, and 28 plans are new while 39 are not returning from 2026.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026; a choice made in that window takes effect January 1, 2027.
  • Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE to check doctors, hospitals, prescriptions and pharmacies against each plan.

Availability varies by county, so a plan counted in the statewide total may not be sold in your ZIP code. The practical work for each household is the same: pull up the plans offered where you live and compare them side by side.

The statewide numbers for 2027

The CMS Landscape File for CY2027 lists 181 Medicare Advantage plans available in Michigan from 18 carriers. All 181 include prescription drug coverage. Compared with CY2026, 28 plans are new for 2027 and 39 plans are not returning. Those year-over-year changes are the reason to re-check your plan even if you were content last year: a plan that leaves the market, or a new plan that enters your county, can reshape your choices.

The full plan and carrier lists appear in the tables on this page. Use them as a starting index, then confirm which plans are actually sold in your county.

Plan types and Special Needs Plans

Among the 181 Michigan plans for 2027, the type mix is: 47 HMO, 50 HMO-POS, 83 PPO, and 1 PFFS. Special Needs Plans — designed for people who meet specific eligibility criteria — total 30 D-SNP, 17 C-SNP, and 3 I-SNP.

Plan type matters because it affects how you access care, not whether a plan is "better." HMOs and HMO-POS plans typically rely on an in-network structure with referral rules; PPOs allow more out-of-network flexibility, often at a different cost share; PFFS plans work differently again. D-SNPs are for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, C-SNPs for people with qualifying chronic conditions, and I-SNPs for people who live in or require an institutional level of care. If you think a Special Needs Plan may fit your situation, confirm eligibility before enrolling.

The carriers offering plans in Michigan

Eighteen carriers appear in the CY2027 Landscape File for Michigan. In alphabetical order: Aetna (CVS Health), Align Senior Care, AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Centene (WellCare), Devoted Health, HAP CareSource MI Coordinated Health, Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health, Humana, Longevity Health Plan, McLaren Medicare, Molina Healthcare of Michigan, Priority Health Medicare, Trinity Health Plan of Michigan, UnitedHealthcare, Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) MI Coordinated Health, and Zing Health.

The number of plans each carrier offers statewide ranges widely — the carrier table on this page shows the counts. For example, Priority Health Medicare lists 40 plans statewide and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan lists 24, while Longevity Health Plan, HAP CareSource MI Coordinated Health, and Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) MI Coordinated Health each list 1. A larger statewide count does not mean a plan is sold in your county; a smaller count does not mean it isn't.

How to compare the plans in your own county

A good comparison takes an hour and is specific to you. Walk through these steps:

1. List your doctors and hospitals. Write down every provider you want to keep seeing, including specialists. 2. List your prescriptions. Include the exact drug name, dose, and how often you take it. 3. List your preferred pharmacies. Note whether you prefer retail, mail order, or both. 4. Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). If you are already in a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, the ANOC arrives by late September and explains what is changing for 2027 — including whether your plan is one of the 39 not returning in Michigan. 5. Open the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code to see only the plans sold in your county. Enter your drug list and pharmacies so the tool can personalize the comparison. 6. Check each plan against your doctors and hospitals. Confirm network participation directly with the plan or the provider's office — directories can lag. 7. Read the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) for any plan you're seriously considering. The EOC is the plan's full rulebook. 8. Compare on your own priorities — not on a ranking. The right plan is the one that covers your providers, your drugs, your pharmacies, and the way you want to get care.

What to do before December 7

The Annual Enrollment Period is October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any Medicare Advantage or Part D change you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. If you are satisfied with your current plan after reading the ANOC and checking Plan Finder, you do not have to do anything — your plan will continue unless the ANOC says otherwise.

If your plan is among the 39 not returning in Michigan for 2027, you will receive a non-renewal notice from the plan and have options during the enrollment window and a Special Enrollment Period that follows. Read any mail from your plan carefully.
