Fall 2026 — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Omaha, the lineup you'll choose from for 2027 looks different than it did this year. In Douglas County, where Omaha sits, 17 plans are leaving after Dec. 31, 2026, 11 new plans are joining for 2027, two carriers are pulling out, and one new carrier is coming in. The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2026, and any choice you make in that window takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.

What's happening in Omaha this fall

Omaha is in Douglas County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For plan year 2026, the county has 45 Medicare Advantage plans from 9 carriers — 8 HMOs, 10 HMO-POS plans and 27 PPOs, including 16 Special Needs Plans. All 45 include Part D drug coverage.

For 2027, the mix is shifting. Some plans are leaving, some are new, a handful are being renamed, and some are changing details like premium, deductible, type or name. The full list of plans available for 2027 appears in the table below.

Carriers leaving, and a new one arriving

Two carriers that offer Medicare Advantage in Douglas County this year will not be here for 2027:

One carrier is new to the county next year:

If you are enrolled in a plan from Medica, or in the Molina Medicare Complete Care (HMO D-SNP) offered by Molina Healthcare of Illinois, your plan is not being renewed for 2027. (A separate Molina Medicare Complete Care (HMO D-SNP) offered by Molina Healthcare of Nebraska is listed as new for 2027 — it is a different contract and will have its own paperwork, network and benefits.)

Plans not returning for 2027

Seventeen plans sold in Douglas County in 2026 will not be offered for 2027, in alphabetical order by carrier:

(The two Great Plains I-SNPs appear on both the leaving list and the new list because the contract is being refiled; CMS treats that as a non-renewal plus a new plan. If you are in one of those plans, read your mail carefully.)

If your plan is on this list, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice. You get a Special Enrollment Period from Dec. 8, 2026 through Feb. 28, 2027 to join a different Medicare Advantage plan or move back to Original Medicare and pick up a stand-alone Part D plan. You can also act during Annual Enrollment, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026.

Plans new for 2027

Eleven plans are being added in Douglas County for 2027:

A few things worth noticing in that list. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is dropping three plans and adding two with different plan types (an HMO-POS and a PPO). Devoted Health is adding both a chronic-condition SNP and a general PPO. The new UnitedHealthcare HMO-POS replaces the "No Rx" PPO of the same brand family, so the plan type and drug-coverage status may be different from what you had — that is a change worth reading closely.

Renames and other changes

Five plans are keeping their contract but changing names for 2027. If you see a different name on your mail, this may be why:

Separately, 7 continuing plans are changing on premium, deductible, type or name in some way. Your Annual Notice of Change, which should arrive by late September, spells out exactly what is different about your plan next year.

The 2026 lineup, for context

The table below lists every Medicare Advantage plan in the county. For a feel of the shape of the market, the 2026 carrier roster is:

Add up the changes above and you can see the general direction for 2027: Medica's four plans and Molina (Illinois)'s one plan come off the board, Blue Cross trims three and adds two, Centene drops its four "Open" PPOs, and Aetna, Devoted, UnitedHealthcare and the new Molina Healthcare of Nebraska add plans of their own.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do nothing during Annual Enrollment?
If your current plan is being offered again in 2027, you stay in it automatically — with whatever changes to premium, deductible, drug list, network and benefits are described in the Annual Notice of Change your plan sent you. If your plan is on the "not returning" list above, doing nothing means you'll go back to Original Medicare on Jan. 1, 2027, without a Part D drug plan unless you pick one.
My plan is on the leaving list. When do I need to act?
You have two windows. You can choose a 2027 plan during Annual Enrollment, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026, like everyone else. You also get a Special Enrollment Period that runs from Dec. 8, 2026 through Feb. 28, 2027 because your plan was non-renewed. During that SEP you can join a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan.
My plan has a new name — is it a different plan?
Not necessarily. Five Omaha-area plans are being renamed for 2027 (listed above) but are continuing under the same contract. Even so, read the Annual Notice of Change; the renamed plan can still have different premiums, cost-sharing or drug coverage next year.
Where can I compare the actual 2027 plans side by side?
The official tool is the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, which will show 2027 plans starting Oct. 1, 2026. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for help understanding your options.
