Aetna's plans with the widest county reach
Based on the CMS Landscape file, several Aetna plans are offered in 21 New Jersey counties for 2027: Aetna Medicare Eagle Giveback (HMO), Aetna Medicare Eagle Giveback (PPO), Aetna Medicare Enhanced (Regional PPO) and Aetna Medicare FIDE (HMO D-SNP). The D-SNP, as noted, is intended for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.
Other plans have narrower reach. For example, Aetna Medicare Elite (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO) are each offered in 13 counties, while Aetna Medicare Prime (HMO-POS), Aetna Medicare Prime (PPO), Aetna Medicare Prime Extra (PPO), Aetna Medicare Prime Giveback (PPO), Aetna Medicare Signature Extra (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Enhanced Extra (PPO) are each listed in 10 counties. Several Enhanced and Elite PPO plans are listed in 6, 7 or 8 counties. The complete plan-by-plan table on this page shows the county counts for each one.
The practical point: a plan on the statewide list may not be available in your specific county. Availability has to be checked at the county level.
What is new or not returning
For 2027, Aetna has 0 new Medicare Advantage plans in New Jersey, and 1 plan from 2026 is not returning.
Two plans appear under new names in the 2027 file. Aetna Medicare Enhanced (Regional PPO) was previously listed as Aetna Medicare Signature (Regional PPO), and Aetna Medicare Enhanced Extra (PPO) was previously listed as Aetna Medicare Signature (PPO). If you were enrolled in either of those in 2026, you may see the new name on 2027 materials. Any member whose plan is being discontinued should receive written notice from the carrier describing options for 2027.
Checking whether a plan is offered in your county — and covers your doctors and prescriptions
Three questions matter before you enroll in or stay in any Medicare Advantage plan:
1. Is the plan offered in your county? Statewide availability is not the same as county availability. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your ZIP code and see the plans you can actually join. 2. Are your doctors, hospitals and other providers in the plan's network? HMO, HMO-POS and PPO plans use networks in different ways. Check the plan's current provider directory, or call the providers' offices directly and ask whether they participate in that specific Aetna plan for 2027. 3. Are your prescriptions on the plan's formulary, and at what tier? All 17 Aetna plans listed for New Jersey include Part D drug coverage, but formularies and pharmacy networks differ by plan. The plan's Evidence of Coverage and formulary are the authoritative documents.
We do not publish premiums, deductibles, copays, benefits, provider lists, drug lists or star ratings on this page, and we do not rank plans. Those details come from the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or the plan's own Evidence of Coverage and directories.
What to do before December 7
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any enrollment, switch or drop made during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. A short checklist:
- Read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your current plan sent in the fall, which describes 2027 changes.
- Make a list of your doctors, hospitals and regular prescriptions.
- Use the Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare the plans available in your county.
- Confirm provider participation and drug coverage directly with the plan or your providers.
- Keep notes on any calls, including the date, the representative's name and a reference number.
