31 New Medicare Advantage Plans in Ohio for 2027: The List
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio's 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup includes 31 plans that were not offered in the state for 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files for the current and coming plan year. The new plans sit inside a broader statewide field of 180 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Each plan is counted once at the state level, but Medicare Advantage is sold county by county, so a plan listed as new in Ohio may or may not be available where you live.

Key takeaways

- A plan being "new" means it has no Star Rating or track record yet, which is a fact to note when you compare options.

- The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and your choice takes effect January 1, 2027.
This explainer walks through what's new, how to check availability in your own county, and the key date on the calendar: the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and a choice made in that window takes effect January 1, 2027.

New plans with the widest county reach
County reach varies widely among the 31 new plans. At the top of the range, several new plans are listed as offered in all 88 Ohio counties for 2027. Those include Wellcare Buckeye Health Dual Access (HMO D-SNP), Wellcare Buckeye Health Dual Reserve (HMO D-SNP), and Wellcare Buckeye MyCare Ohio Dual Align (HMO D-SNP) from Centene (WellCare); Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (HMO D-SNP) and Anthem I MyCare Ohio Full Dual Advantage (HMO D-SNP) from Elevance Health (Anthem); Molina Complete Care Connect for MyCare Ohio (HMO D-SNP) from Molina Healthcare of Ohio; and AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx OH-MA2 (HMO-POS) from UnitedHealthcare.
Several of Humana's new plans also show broad reach, including Humana Senior Living Plan (PPO I-SNP) and Humana Together in Health (PPO I-SNP) in 72 counties, HumanaChoice Giveback H5216-481 (PPO) in 64 counties, and Humana Essentials Plus Giveback (PPO) in 63 counties. UnitedHealthcare's UHC Complete Care Support OH-2A (HMO-POS C-SNP) is listed in 75 counties, and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC OH-19 (HMO-POS) is listed in 44 counties. Other new plans have smaller footprints — for example, Zing Elite Essentials Diabetes & Heart OH (HMO C-SNP) is listed in 3 counties, and the four MedMutual Advantage Elite plans are each listed in 5 counties.
Reach is only one factor. A plan available in your county still needs to be a workable fit for your doctors, hospitals, and medications.
What "new" means for 2027
When CMS calls a plan "new," it means the plan contract and benefit package did not exist in Ohio for the previous plan year. In practical terms:
- A new plan does not yet have a Medicare Star Rating. Star Ratings are built from member experience and plan performance over time, and a plan has to be in the market long enough to gather that data.
- A new plan does not have a public track record of customer service, claims handling, or network stability that current members can describe from past years.
That isn't a judgment for or against new plans — it's just a feature of the first year. It does mean the comparison between a new plan and a plan that has been offered for several years will not look identical, because one side of the comparison is missing a rating.
Checking a new plan in your county, with your doctors and prescriptions
Because Medicare Advantage is sold county by county, the single most useful step is to confirm what's actually available at your ZIP code and whether a plan fits your care.
1. Go to medicare.gov and open the Medicare Plan Finder. Enter your ZIP code and your prescriptions. 2. Filter to Medicare Advantage plans. The results will show which of the 31 new Ohio plans — along with returning plans — are offered in your county. 3. For any plan you're considering, open the plan details and check the provider directory for your primary care doctor and specialists, and the plan's drug list (formulary) for every prescription you take. 4. Read the plan's Evidence of Coverage for the full rules on referrals, prior authorizations, and out-of-network care. 5. If you want help from a human, call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Carrier names and plan names on this page are listed exactly as CMS lists them, so you can match them one-to-one with what appears in the Plan Finder.
What to do before December 7
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, 2026. During that window you can:
- Join a Medicare Advantage plan.
- Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.
- Return to Original Medicare and, if you want drug coverage, add a stand-alone Part D plan.
A choice made in that window takes effect January 1, 2027. A short checklist that often helps:
- Make a list of your current doctors, pharmacies, and prescriptions (names and doses).
- Note any planned procedures or specialists you expect to see in 2027.
- Run your list through the Plan Finder for every plan you're considering, including any of the 31 new plans available in your county.
- Write down the plan name and plan ID before you enroll, so you're sure you've selected the right one.
