PITTSBURGH — The 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup in Allegheny County is set, and it looks a lot like 2026 with some notable edits. Eight plans are new for the coming year, nine will not come back, and more than a dozen are keeping the same shape but a different name on the mail you'll get this fall.

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any choice you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. If you do nothing and your current plan is being offered next year, it renews automatically with whatever changes are spelled out in its Annual Notice of Change (ANOC).

How many Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Pittsburgh for 2027?

Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County, where 16 carriers are offering Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. The 2026 base count was 96 plans — a mix of HMO, HMO-POS, PPO and a single PFFS plan — including 33 Special Needs Plans and 84 plans that bundle in Part D drug coverage. Nine of those plans are not returning and eight new ones are joining, so the 2027 roster lands at a similar size with a different edge.

The table below lists every plan available in the county, grouped by carrier. Big names on that list include Aetna (CVS Health), Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and UPMC for Life, each with a double-digit lineup. Smaller carriers — American Health Advantage of Pennsylvania, Geisinger Gold, Jefferson Health Plans, Perennial Advantage, Provider Partners Health Plans, VISTA Health Plan and others — round it out.

Which Pittsburgh Medicare Advantage plans are new for 2027?

Eight plans are new to Allegheny County for 2027. In alphabetical order by carrier, they are:

Several of these are Special Needs Plans — the D-SNP label means a plan built for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid, C-SNP is for people living with specific chronic conditions, and I-SNP is for people in long-term care settings. You can see the plan type next to every name in the table below.

Which Pittsburgh plans are leaving after 2026?

Nine plans sold in Allegheny County in 2026 will not be offered for 2027:

A few names appear on both the "leaving" and "new" lists — that happens when a carrier retires a contract and introduces a replacement under the same name. The plan contract ID itself is different, so for enrollment purposes it is a new plan.

If your plan is on the leaving list, your insurer must mail you a non-renewal notice. You then qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that lets you join a different Medicare Advantage plan, or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan, from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. You can also use the regular Annual Enrollment Period before December 7.

Which Pittsburgh plans were renamed for 2027?

Eleven plans in Allegheny County are keeping the same contract but changing their name on the paperwork for 2027. If one of these is your plan, your coverage continues — read the ANOC carefully, because premium, deductible or benefit details may still be changing even when the plan isn't going anywhere:

Across the whole Allegheny lineup, CMS files show 35 plans with some change to premium, deductible, name or plan type for 2027, and 76 plans continuing in some form.

What's confirmed about drug costs for 2027?

The Part D numbers CMS has already published for 2027:

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets have not been announced yet. CMS normally publishes those in the fall, usually in November. If drug costs are hard to spread across the year, ask your plan about the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you pay Part D cost-sharing in monthly installments instead of at the pharmacy counter.

What should Pittsburgh residents do before December 7, 2026?

Three steps are worth putting on the calendar now:

1. Read your ANOC. It arrives by late September and spells out exactly what changes in your plan for 2027 — premium, deductible, drug tiers, provider network, extra benefits. 2. Check your doctors and your drugs. Networks and formularies change every year. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you plug in your prescriptions and compare 2027 plans side by side for Allegheny County. 3. Decide by December 7. If your plan is non-renewed, you have additional time through February 28, 2027 under the Special Enrollment Period. If your plan is simply changing, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31, 2027 gives you one more chance to switch Advantage plans or return to Original Medicare.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do nothing during Annual Enrollment?
If your current Medicare Advantage plan is being offered again for 2027, you stay enrolled automatically — with any premium, deductible, network or benefit changes described in your Annual Notice of Change. If your plan is on the leaving list, your coverage ends December 31, 2026 and you'll want to pick a new plan during enrollment or during the Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027.
My plan has a new name for 2027 — do I need to re-enroll?
No. A renamed plan is the same contract with a different name. You stay enrolled, but you should still read the ANOC, because the plan can change premium, deductible, drug coverage or network at the same time it changes the name.
Can I switch plans after December 7?
Yes, in two situations. From January 1 through March 31, 2027, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period lets anyone already in a Medicare Advantage plan switch to another MA plan or go back to Original Medicare. And if your plan is non-renewed, the Special Enrollment Period for non-renewals runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027.
Where can I compare the 2027 plans for my ZIP code?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, which shows every 2027 plan available in Allegheny County along with its full details, or call **1-800-MEDICARE** (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
