Key takeaways
- UnitedHealthcare has 22 Medicare Advantage plans listed in Pennsylvania for 2027, and every one of them includes drug coverage.
- Three UnitedHealthcare plans are new for 2027 and six are not returning, so current members should read any notice they receive before the Annual Enrollment Period ends December 7, 2026.
- Because plans are sold county by county, a plan listed statewide may not be offered where you live — confirm on the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.
- Special Needs Plans are part of the lineup: 4 D-SNPs, 3 C-SNPs and 1 I-SNP, each with its own eligibility rules.
What UnitedHealthcare offers in Pennsylvania for 2027
UnitedHealthcare's 2027 Pennsylvania slate contains 22 Medicare Advantage plans. By plan type, that breaks down to 13 HMO-POS plans and 9 PPO plans. All 22 include Part D prescription drug coverage.
Special Needs Plans — plans built for people who meet specific eligibility criteria — are also in the mix. UnitedHealthcare's filing shows 4 Dual Eligible SNPs (for people with both Medicare and Medicaid), 3 Chronic Condition SNPs (for people with a qualifying condition) and 1 Institutional SNP (for people who meet an institutional level of care). SNP eligibility is not automatic; it is defined by CMS rules and verified at enrollment.
For context, the CMS Landscape file lists 20 Medicare Advantage carriers operating somewhere in Pennsylvania for 2027, with a combined 338 plans statewide. UnitedHealthcare is one carrier in that larger field.
Plans with the widest county reach
Because Medicare Advantage is licensed county by county, "statewide" counts tell you what exists — not what is sold on your street. Pennsylvania has 67 counties, and several UnitedHealthcare plans are filed in all of them for 2027. Those include AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC PA-0008 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage Giveback from UHC PA-12 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx PA-MA01 (HMO-POS), UHC Complete Care PA-17 (HMO-POS C-SNP), UHC Dual Advantage PA-V1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), UHC Dual Complete PA-S001 (PPO D-SNP) and UHC Dual Complete PA-S002 (HMO-POS D-SNP).
Other plans have a narrower footprint. For example, AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC PA-0002 (HMO-POS) is listed in 62 counties, UHC Nursing Home Plan EX-F002 (PPO I-SNP) in 44 counties, and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC PA-0011 (PPO) in 37 counties. On the smaller end, several plans — including AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC PA-5 and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC PA-19 — are offered in a handful of counties or, in the case of PA-19, a single county. The full county-by-county breakdown appears in the tables elsewhere on this page.
What is new, what is not returning
Three UnitedHealthcare plans are new for 2027 in Pennsylvania: AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC PA-19 (HMO-POS), and two filings of UHC Complete Care Support PA-1A (HMO-POS C-SNP), each covering a different set of counties. One existing plan has been renamed — UHC Dual Advantage PA-V1 (HMO-POS D-SNP) was previously UHC Dual Complete PA-V001.
On the other side of the ledger, 6 UnitedHealthcare plans in Pennsylvania are not returning for 2027. If you are currently enrolled in a plan that is being discontinued, renamed or changed in a material way, the carrier is required to send you an Annual Notice of Change. Read it carefully; it tells you what, if anything, you need to do.
Checking whether a plan is offered in your county — and covers your doctors and drugs
A plan that appears on the statewide list is not necessarily sold in your ZIP code. Before you decide anything, confirm three things:
1. Availability in your county. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov and enter your ZIP code, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 711), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 2. Your doctors and hospitals. Check the plan's current provider directory, or call the provider's office and ask whether they participate in the specific plan you are considering for 2027. 3. Your prescriptions. Review the plan's formulary (drug list) for each medication you take, including dosage and pharmacy. The Plan Finder lets you enter your drugs and preferred pharmacy to see how a plan handles them.
If a plan is a Special Needs Plan, also confirm you meet the eligibility rules (dual Medicare-Medicaid status for a D-SNP, a qualifying chronic condition for a C-SNP, or an institutional level of care for an I-SNP).
What to do before December 7
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15, 2026 through December 7, 2026. A choice you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. A simple checklist:
- Pull out your Annual Notice of Change and any mail from your current plan.
- Make a list of your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions.
- Enter your information in the Plan Finder at medicare.gov to see every plan available in your county — not just UnitedHealthcare's.
- Write down the plan name and plan ID of anything you are considering, so you can reference it exactly.
- If you decide to switch, enroll on or before December 7, 2026.
If you do nothing and your current plan is renewing, you generally stay enrolled. If your plan is one of the six UnitedHealthcare plans not returning, you will need to pick a new plan or you may be returned to Original Medicare.
