What Anthem is offering in Virginia Beach for 2027
Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level, and Virginia Beach is its own independent city (Virginia Beach city) for CMS purposes. In that county for 2027, Anthem is offering:
- 3 HMO plans
- 5 HMO-POS plans (an HMO that lets you go out of network in limited situations)
- 4 PPO plans
All 12 include Part D prescription drug coverage. The table on this page lists every Anthem plan by name and type so you can see the full lineup at a glance.
Anthem is one of 6 carriers offering Medicare Advantage in Virginia Beach city for 2027. All carriers combined offer 70 plans in the county, so Anthem's lineup is part of a broader local market.
The Special Needs Plans in the lineup
Six of Anthem's 12 plans here are Special Needs Plans, which are built for people who meet specific eligibility rules:
- 4 Dual Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) — for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid: Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (HMO D-SNP), Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (PPO D-SNP), Anthem Full Dual Advantage (HMO D-SNP), and Anthem Full Dual Advantage Support (HMO D-SNP).
- 2 Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs) — for people with a qualifying chronic condition: Anthem Chronic Care (HMO-POS C-SNP) and Anthem Kidney Care (HMO-POS C-SNP).
If you don't qualify under the SNP rules, those plans aren't open to you — Medicare Plan Finder will show that when you enter your information.
What's new, what's renamed, what's gone
Comparing the 2026 and 2027 CMS Landscape files for Virginia Beach city:
- New for 2027: 0 Anthem plans.
- Not returning for 2027: 1 Anthem plan. If you're in a plan that isn't being offered next year, Anthem will send a non-renewal notice and you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick something else.
- Renamed for 2027: 2 plans. The CMS file flags Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (HMO D-SNP) as renamed from Anthem Dual Advantage (HMO D-SNP), and Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (PPO D-SNP) as renamed from Anthem Dual Advantage (PPO D-SNP). A rename doesn't automatically mean the benefits are the same — read the Annual Notice of Change for the details.
Every Anthem member in Virginia Beach should have received an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by late September. That document lists what is changing in your specific plan for January 1, 2027 — premium, deductible, copays, drug tiers, provider network, extra benefits. Our rules keep us from quoting any of those numbers; the ANOC and the plan's Evidence of Coverage are where you find them.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, three steps will save you most of the second-guessing later:
1. Make a list. Write down each doctor and hospital you want to keep, and every prescription you take (name, dose, how often). 2. Use Medicare Plan Finder. Go to medicare.gov/plan-compare, enter your ZIP code, and type in your drugs and pharmacies. Plan Finder will show each 2027 plan's drug costs for your medications and flag which plans count your doctors as in-network. 3. Confirm with the plan and the provider. Networks and formularies can change on January 1. Call Anthem Member Services (the number on your card, or the one listed on the plan's page) and call your doctor's billing office to confirm they'll accept the 2027 version of the plan.
If you prefer phone help, 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) is open 24/7 and can walk you through the same comparison.
A few 2027 figures worth knowing
These are program-wide rules, not plan features:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket drug spending hits that cap, you pay $0 for covered Part D drugs the rest of the year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can set a lower deductible, but not higher.
- Medicare Prescription Payment Plan: you can still choose to spread your Part D out-of-pocket costs across the year in level monthly payments.
- Part B premium and deductible for 2027, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets: CMS announces these in the fall, usually in November. We'll update as soon as the figures are official.
What happens if you do nothing
Nothing dramatic. If your current Anthem plan is being offered again in 2027, you'll stay in it automatically — with whatever changes the ANOC describes. If your plan is the one not returning, Anthem will tell you in writing, and you'll have time outside the standard window to choose a new plan. Either way, the Annual Enrollment Period from October 15 to December 7, 2026 is your chance to shop on your own terms before January 1.
