MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent consumer site and is not affiliated with UnitedHealthcare or Medicare. UnitedHealthcare is one of 10 carriers offering Medicare Advantage in Dane County next year; across all carriers, Dane County residents will have 48 Medicare Advantage plans to choose from in 2027.

What UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Madison for 2027?

In Dane County — the county Madison sits in — UnitedHealthcare will offer 11 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. By plan type, that is 7 HMO-POS plans and 4 PPO plans. Ten of the 11 include Part D prescription drug coverage; one is offered without drug coverage.

The table below lists every UnitedHealthcare plan available in the county next year with its plan type and whether it includes drug coverage. The named plans are the AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC and AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot lines, the UHC Care Advantage and UHC Nursing Home Plan (both I-SNPs), the UHC Complete Care plans (C-SNPs), and the UHC Dual Advantage and UHC Dual Complete plans (D-SNPs).

Which UnitedHealthcare Special Needs Plans are available in Dane County?

Eight of UnitedHealthcare's 11 Dane County plans for 2027 are Special Needs Plans (SNPs), which are limited to people who meet specific eligibility rules. The breakdown is 4 Dual Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs), 2 Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs), and 2 Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs).

D-SNPs are for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. C-SNPs are for people with certain chronic conditions. I-SNPs are for people who live in, or need the level of care provided by, a long-term care facility. If you are not sure whether you qualify, Medicare's Plan Finder at medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE can walk you through the eligibility questions.

What's new, renamed or not returning for 2027?

For 2027, UnitedHealthcare has 1 new plan, 3 renamed plans, and 3 plans that are not returning in Dane County. The new plan is UHC Dual Complete WI-S1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), with drug coverage.

The three renamed plans are UHC Dual Advantage WI-V1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), previously called UHC Dual Complete WI-V001; UHC Dual Advantage WI-V2 (PPO D-SNP), previously UHC Dual Complete WI-D001; and UHC Dual Complete WI-Q1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), previously UHC Dual Complete WI-D002. A rename does not necessarily mean the plan is the same in every other way — your Annual Notice of Change is where the specific benefit, cost and network updates are written out.

Three plans offered in 2026 will not come back for 2027. If one of them is yours, UnitedHealthcare will send a non-renewal notice explaining your options and the Special Enrollment Period rules that may apply.

How do I check a UnitedHealthcare plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?

Before December 7, 2026, the fastest way to check any plan against your own doctors and prescriptions is the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. You can enter your drug list and preferred pharmacy, and the tool will show you each plan's formulary tier for your drugs and its estimated yearly cost. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) if you'd rather do this by phone — the line is open 24/7.

A few things worth doing before you decide:

What happens if I do nothing before December 7, 2026?

If you do nothing by December 7, 2026, and your current plan is still offered in Dane County for 2027, you'll stay on it — with the changes described in your ANOC taking effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is one that is not returning, you will not be automatically moved to another UnitedHealthcare plan; you'll go back to Original Medicare unless you pick a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, or use a Special Enrollment Period that your non-renewal notice explains.

There is also the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31, 2027, when people already in a Medicare Advantage plan can make one change. CMS will publish the 2027 Part B standard premium, deductible and IRMAA income brackets later in the fall — typically in November — so those figures are not final yet.

Frequently asked questions

How many UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Madison for 2027?
UnitedHealthcare will offer 11 Medicare Advantage plans in Dane County, the county Madison is in, for 2027. That includes 7 HMO-POS plans and 4 PPO plans, with 10 of the 11 including Part D drug coverage.
What should I do if my UnitedHealthcare plan is not returning in 2027?
Watch for a non-renewal notice from UnitedHealthcare — it explains that your plan ends December 31, 2026 and lists your options. You can pick a different Medicare Advantage or Part D plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (through December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period may give you extra time; otherwise you'll return to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027.
Does a plan being "renamed" mean nothing really changed?
Not necessarily. A new plan name or ID can come with changes to costs, benefits, drug coverage or provider networks. The Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan sent in September 2026 is the document that spells out exactly what is different for 2027.
Where can I compare UnitedHealthcare plans against my own doctors and drugs?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, which lets you enter your prescriptions and pharmacy and shows each plan's formulary and estimated yearly cost. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) 24 hours a day for help comparing plans.
