GLENDALE, Ariz. — If you open your mailbox this fall and find a letter saying your Medicare Advantage plan will not be offered next year, you are not alone. In Maricopa County, which includes Glendale, 13 Medicare Advantage plans listed for 2026 are not in the CMS file for 2027, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files. Members of those plans will get a non-renewal letter from their insurer and will have extra time to pick something else.
Here is what the letter looks like, which plans are on the list, what happens if you do nothing, and the Special Enrollment Period that comes with a non-renewal.
How can I tell if my Glendale Medicare Advantage plan is ending in 2027?
Your insurer is required to mail you a non-renewal notice, usually arriving in early October 2026. The letter will say the plan will not be offered in 2027 and will explain your options and deadlines. It is separate from the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which goes to members whose plans are continuing with updates.
If you are not sure what you received, call the member services number on the back of your plan ID card and ask directly: "Is my plan being offered in Maricopa County in 2027?" You can also check your plan at medicare.gov using the Plan Finder or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
Which Medicare Advantage plans are not returning in Maricopa County for 2027?
Based on the CMS Landscape Source Files for 2026 and 2027, these 13 plans offered in Maricopa County for 2026 are not in the 2027 file. They are listed alphabetically by carrier:
- Aetna (CVS Health): Aetna Medicare Elite (PPO); Aetna Medicare Prime (HMO); Aetna Medicare Prime Chronic Care (HMO C-SNP); Aetna Medicare Prime Extra (HMO); Aetna Medicare Signature Extra (HMO)
- Centene (WellCare): Wellcare Arizona Complete Health Dual Align (HMO D-SNP); Wellcare Dual Liberty Sync (HMO D-SNP); Wellcare Giveback (HMO); Wellcare Simple Value (HMO)
- Elevance Health (Anthem): Wellpoint I CareMore Home Care (HMO I-SNP)
- eternalHealth: eternalHealth Grand Give Back (HMO)
- HealthSpring: HealthSpring Preferred (HMO)
- SCAN Health Plan: SCAN Strive (HMO C-SNP)
If your current plan is not on this list, it is expected to be offered again in 2027 — but review the ANOC your insurer sends, because benefits, drug lists and networks can change year to year. The table on this page shows the full lineup for the county.
What happens in Glendale if I do nothing when my plan ends?
If your Medicare Advantage plan is not returning and you do not pick a new plan by December 31, 2026, you are automatically moved to Original Medicare — Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) — starting January 1, 2027. You keep your Medicare. You do not lose coverage.
What you will not have, unless you add it, is prescription drug coverage. Most of the plans on the not-returning list include Part D, so if you move to Original Medicare without signing up for a stand-alone Part D plan, you could face a late enrollment penalty later. You also will not have the extra benefits your Medicare Advantage plan included, such as any dental, vision or hearing coverage it offered.
What Special Enrollment Period do I get if my Medicare Advantage plan is not renewed?
When your plan is non-renewed, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027. During that window you can:
- Enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan offered in Maricopa County for 2027 (the 2027 lineup has 92 plans from 16 carriers, per the CMS Landscape Source File).
- Return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.
- Look into a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy to pair with Original Medicare.
A plan non-renewal is also a guaranteed-issue event for Medigap at the federal level, which means insurers must sell you certain Medigap policies without using your health history against you. Arizona has its own rules on top of federal law; for state-specific questions, contact the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions.
When is the deadline to pick a 2027 Medicare plan in Glendale?
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any choice you make in that window takes effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is being non-renewed, you have the extra Special Enrollment Period described above through February 2027 — but it is usually easier to pick a plan during Annual Enrollment so your new coverage starts on January 1 without a gap.
A few 2027 program figures to keep in mind as you compare plans:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- The 2027 Part B standard premium and IRMAA income brackets have not been announced yet; CMS usually publishes them in the fall.
