If you are already enrolled in a Humana plan, read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) you received in September. It explains, plan by plan, what is different for 2027 — premiums, cost sharing, drug tiers, extra benefits and provider network changes.
How do I check a Humana plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code, add your prescriptions and your preferred pharmacies, and the tool will show each 2027 plan side by side, including estimated yearly drug costs and the plan's star rating.
A few checks to run on any specific Humana plan you are considering:
- Doctors and hospitals: Look up each provider in the plan's own online directory, or call the clinic and ask whether it is contracted with that exact plan name and contract number for 2027. HMO and PPO networks are not the same, even within one carrier.
- Prescriptions: Check the plan's 2027 formulary for every drug you take. Confirm the tier, any prior authorization or step therapy, and whether your pharmacy is a preferred pharmacy for that plan.
- Extra benefits: Dental, vision, hearing, OTC and fitness benefits vary by plan. The ANOC and the plan's Summary of Benefits spell out what is and is not included for 2027.
- Referrals and out-of-network care: HMOs usually require you to use in-network providers and get referrals; PPOs let you go out of network at a higher cost. The table below shows which Humana plans here are HMO and which are PPO.
If you prefer to talk to a person, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also call Humana directly using the number on the plan's materials.
What 2027 Medicare numbers should I know while comparing plans?
A few program-level figures are already set for 2027 and apply no matter which plan you pick:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs reaches that cap, you pay $0 for the rest of the calendar year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can set a lower deductible, or none, but cannot go above this.
- Medicare Prescription Payment Plan: Still available in 2027. It lets you spread your out-of-pocket drug costs across the year in monthly payments instead of paying at the pharmacy counter.
CMS has not yet announced the 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, or the 2027 IRMAA income brackets. Those figures are typically published in the fall, usually in November. Until then, use the 2026 figures as a reference only.
What happens if I do nothing by December 7?
Nothing dramatic. If you take no action by December 7, 2026, and your current plan is still offered in 2027, you will stay enrolled in it, with the changes described in that plan's ANOC taking effect on January 1, 2027.
If a plan you are in is being discontinued for 2027, your carrier will send a non-renewal notice. You then have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan. (For Humana in Orange County, the carrier block shows 0 plans not returning for 2027.)
There is also a second window: the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, January 1 – March 31, 2027. If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan on January 1 and change your mind, you can switch to another MA plan once, or go back to Original Medicare, during that window.
