Area counts are for the county as a whole and are not a recommendation of any plan. Program figures are set nationally.

The plans involved span six carriers and include HMO, HMO-POS, PPO, Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) and an Institutional SNP. Each plan is counted once statewide; because Medicare Advantage is sold county by county, a plan on the list may or may not have been available where you live.

How many Medicare Advantage plans are not returning in Connecticut for 2027, and from which carriers?

Seventeen Medicare Advantage plans offered in Connecticut for 2026 are not returning for 2027, drawn from six carriers: Aetna (CVS Health), CarePartners of Connecticut, Centene (WellCare), ConnectiCare, Elevance Health (Anthem) and HealthSpring. The full list is shown in the table on this page.

ConnectiCare accounts for the largest share of the non-renewed plans, including entries in its Choice, Flex and Passage lines, along with ConnectiCare Choice Dual (HMO-POS D-SNP). Aetna's non-renewals include Aetna Medicare Elite (HMO-POS) and Aetna Medicare Longevity (PPO I-SNP). Centene's include Wellcare Giveback (HMO-POS) and Wellcare Giveback Open (PPO). CarePartners of Connecticut's include CarePartners Access (PPO) and CarePartners of CT CareAdvantage Preferred (HMO). Elevance Health's non-renewal is Anthem Dual Advantage (PPO D-SNP), and HealthSpring's are HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP) and HealthSpring True Choice (PPO).

Which non-returning Connecticut Medicare Advantage plans served the most counties in 2026?

Several of the non-returning plans were offered in all eight Connecticut counties in 2026, according to the CMS file. Those statewide-footprint plans include Aetna Medicare Elite (HMO-POS), Aetna Medicare Longevity (PPO I-SNP), Wellcare Giveback (HMO-POS), Wellcare Giveback Open (PPO), Anthem Dual Advantage (PPO D-SNP), and the ConnectiCare Choice Plan 1, Choice Plan 2, Choice Plan 3, Choice Dual, Flex Plan 2 and Passage Plan 1 offerings.

Others served smaller areas. CarePartners Access (PPO) and CarePartners of CT CareAdvantage Preferred (HMO) each served seven counties. HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP) and HealthSpring True Choice (PPO) each served six. ConnectiCare Flex Plan 3 (HMO-POS) appears in the file in four counties. A plan's county count reflects where it was offered in 2026; it does not mean it reached every neighborhood in those counties.

How can a Connecticut member tell if their Medicare Advantage plan is leaving in 2027?

There are two reliable signals. First, carriers are required to mail an Annual Notice of Change or a specific non-renewal letter in the fall explaining that the plan will not be offered in 2027. Second, the plan's exact name appears on the list of 17 non-returning plans shown in the table on this page.

If you can't find the letter, call the member services number on the back of your plan card, or look up your plan by name on Medicare.gov's Plan Finder. The plan name on your ID card should match the spelling in the CMS file.

What happens to a Connecticut Medicare Advantage member who does nothing by December 7, 2026?

If your plan is on the non-renewal list and you make no other choice, you are returned to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) effective January 1, 2027. Original Medicare does not include Part D prescription drug coverage, so you would have no drug coverage unless you actively enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan or another Medicare Advantage plan that includes drugs.

Original Medicare also does not cap your annual out-of-pocket costs the way Medicare Advantage plans do. That is why federal rules give displaced members extra time to choose, described below.

What Special Enrollment Period and Medigap rights apply when a Medicare Advantage plan is non-renewed?

At the program level, members of a non-renewed Medicare Advantage plan qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027, allowing a switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan. This is in addition to the Annual Enrollment window of October 15 – December 7, 2026.

Federal rules also provide a Medigap guaranteed-issue right in defined non-renewal situations, meaning certain Medicare Supplement policies can be purchased without medical underwriting within a limited time frame. Connecticut has its own Medigap rules on top of federal protections; for state-specific questions, the Connecticut Insurance Department is the authority.

How can a Connecticut resident check their own county's 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup?

The CMS Medicare Plan Finder at Medicare.gov shows the 2027 plans available in your ZIP code and county once the new plan year's data is posted. Entering your ZIP code and, if you choose, your prescription list and preferred pharmacy returns the plans you can actually enroll in.

You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ask what's available in your county for 2027.

What should Connecticut members do before December 7, 2026?

Before December 7, 2026, confirm whether your current plan is on the non-returning list, read any Annual Notice of Change or non-renewal letter from your carrier, and compare the 2027 options available in your county. Choices made during Annual Enrollment take effect January 1, 2027.

If your plan is non-renewed and you need more time, remember the Special Enrollment Period through the end of February 2027 and, where it applies, the federal Medigap guaranteed-issue right.

Where can Connecticut residents get free help?

Medicare.gov hosts the official Plan Finder, enrollment tools, and plan documents. The 1-800-MEDICARE line (TTY 1-877-486-2048) answers plan questions year-round at no cost. Each plan's Evidence of Coverage and provider and pharmacy directories are the authoritative source for benefit, network and drug details.
