Key takeaways
- 30 Medicare Advantage plans offered in Miami-Dade County for 2026 are not returning for 2027; the table below lists each one by carrier.
- Your insurer must mail a non-renewal notice by early October 2026 — if you got one, your current plan ends December 31, 2026.
- If you do nothing, you go back to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, with no drug coverage until you add a Part D plan.
- A non-renewal gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027, to pick a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.
MIAMI — This fall, some Miami-Dade County residents are opening a letter from their Medicare Advantage insurer with news they did not expect: their plan will not be offered in 2027. According to CMS's 2027 Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File, 30 Medicare Advantage plans sold in Miami-Dade County this year are not returning next year. If you are in one of them, you have time, you have choices, and you have a Special Enrollment Period that most other people do not.
Here is how to tell if your plan is on the list, what happens if you do nothing, and the deadlines that matter.
How to tell if your plan is ending
If your Medicare Advantage plan will not be offered in Miami-Dade County in 2027, your insurer is required to send you a written non-renewal notice, usually arriving by early October 2026. It is a separate letter from the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that every plan sends. The non-renewal letter will say plainly that your plan will not be available next year and that your coverage ends December 31, 2026.
Keep that letter. It is proof of your Special Enrollment Period if a plan or pharmacy ever asks.
Not sure what you received? You can also check at medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Miami-Dade plans not returning for 2027
Miami is in Miami-Dade County, where Medicare plan availability is set. The table below lists every plan that will not be offered here in 2027, in alphabetical order by carrier, as published in the CMS Landscape files for 2026 and 2027:
- Aetna (CVS Health): Aetna Medicare Dual Select (HMO D-SNP)
- Align Senior Care: Premier Care (HMO I-SNP); Senior Care (HMO I-SNP)
- Centene (WellCare): Wellcare Dual Access Sync (HMO D-SNP); Wellcare Patriot Giveback (HMO); Wellcare Simple (HMO); Wellcare Sunshine Health Dual Align (HMO D-SNP)
- Doctors HealthCare Plans, Inc.: DrElite-SFL (HMO); DrExtraCare (HMO C-SNP); DrMax (HMO); DrPlus (HMO D-SNP); DrSelect (HMO)
- Elevance Health (Anthem): Simply Complete (HMO D-SNP); Simply Complete Platinum (HMO D-SNP); Simply Extra Platinum (HMO); Simply Integrated (HMO D-SNP); Simply Integrated Platinum (HMO D-SNP); Simply Level (HMO C-SNP); Simply Level Platinum (HMO C-SNP); Simply More (HMO); Simply More Platinum (HMO)
- Gold Kidney Health Plan: Gold Health (HMO-POS C-SNP)
- HealthSpring: HealthSpring Preferred (HMO); HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP)
- Humana: CareNeeds Extra (HMO D-SNP); Humana USAA Honor Giveback (PPO); HumanaChoice Florida SNP-DE H7617-113 (PPO D-SNP)
- UnitedHealthcare: UHC MedicareMax Dual Complete FL-D4 (HMO D-SNP); UHC MedicareMax Dual Complete FL-V3 (HMO D-SNP); UHC MedicareMax Dual Complete FL-Y6 (HMO-POS D-SNP)
If your plan is not on this list, it is scheduled to be offered again in 2027 — but read your ANOC, because benefits, copays, drug lists and provider networks can still change. For 2027, Miami-Dade County will have 101 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers.
What happens if you do nothing
This is the part a lot of people miss. If your plan ends and you do not pick a new one, you are not left without coverage — but you are not automatically moved into a replacement Medicare Advantage plan either.
On January 1, 2027, you go back to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). That means:
- Your doctors and hospitals bill Medicare directly, and you pay the standard Part A and Part B cost-sharing.
- You will not have Part D prescription drug coverage unless you enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan.
- Any extra benefits your Medicare Advantage plan provided (dental, vision, hearing, over-the-counter, transportation, etc.) end.
Original Medicare works fine for many people, but going without drug coverage can lead to a late enrollment penalty later. If you want to stay on Original Medicare, pair it with a Part D plan during your Special Enrollment Period.
Your Special Enrollment Period and your choices
Because your plan is being discontinued, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. During that window you can:
1. Choose a different Medicare Advantage plan offered in Miami-Dade County for 2027 (with or without drug coverage, depending on the plan). 2. Return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D prescription drug plan. 3. Consider a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy to help with Original Medicare's out-of-pocket costs. A plan non-renewal is one of the situations that triggers a federal Medigap "guaranteed-issue" right, meaning certain Medigap plans must sell to you without medical underwriting. Florida has its own rules on top of the federal protections — the Florida Department of Financial Services and the plan's insurer can confirm what applies to you.
You can also still use the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) to make a choice that takes effect January 1, 2027. For most people, using AEP means you do not have a coverage gap on day one.
A few 2027 numbers worth knowing
As you compare, these program-level figures are already set by CMS for 2027:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 for 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 for 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") remains eliminated.
The 2027 Part B standard premium, Part B deductible, and IRMAA income brackets are typically announced by CMS in the fall, usually in November. Watch medicare.gov for those.
