What changed from 2026
Compared with 2026, Alterwood Advantage dropped from six plans to five in Baltimore city. One plan is not returning for 2027. No new Alterwood Advantage plans were added, and none were renamed.
If the plan you have today is the one not returning, Alterwood Advantage is required to send you a non-renewal notice. If you receive one, you'll want to pick a different plan — from Alterwood Advantage or any other carrier serving the county — during the Annual Enrollment Period, or you can return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan.
If your current plan is on the 2027 list, read your ANOC carefully. Premiums, copays, networks, and drug lists can shift from one year to the next, and the ANOC is where those changes are spelled out.
Special Needs Plans and drug coverage
Two of Alterwood Advantage's 2027 Baltimore plans — Alterwood Advantage Dual Secure (HMO D-SNP) and Alterwood Advantage Dual Value (HMO D-SNP) — are Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans. To enroll in a D-SNP, you generally need to qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. If you aren't sure whether you qualify for Medicaid in Maryland, Maryland Health Connection and your local Department of Social Services can tell you.
The carrier is not offering a Chronic Condition SNP (C-SNP) or Institutional SNP (I-SNP) in Baltimore city for 2027.
All five plans include Part D drug coverage, so you would not add a separate stand-alone drug plan on top of them.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before you lock anything in, do three things:
1. Check your doctors. Call your primary care doctor and any specialists you see regularly, and ask whether they are in the plan's network for 2027. Networks can change. You can also look up providers in the plan's online directory. 2. Check your prescriptions. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov to enter your drugs and your preferred pharmacy. The tool will show how each plan handles each medication next year. 3. Read the Evidence of Coverage (EOC). The EOC is the long document that lays out exactly what the plan covers, what it costs, and how prior authorizations and referrals work.
If you'd rather talk to a person, 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
