What UnitedHealthcare is offering in Bernalillo County for 2027
Albuquerque is in Bernalillo County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, UnitedHealthcare's county lineup breaks down this way:
- 13 Medicare Advantage plans total
- By type: 1 HMO-POS, 12 PPO
- Special Needs Plans: 3 D-SNPs (for people with both Medicare and Medicaid) and 2 C-SNPs (for people with certain chronic conditions)
- All 13 plans include drug coverage
The table below lists every UnitedHealthcare plan available in the county for 2027, with plan type and drug coverage, and flags which ones are new or renamed.
What is new, what is renamed, what is not returning
Four UnitedHealthcare plans are new in Bernalillo County for 2027: AARP Medicare Advantage Direct OTC from UHC NM-14 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage Direct Plus from UHC NM-15 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage Extras from UHC NM-12 (PPO), and UHC Dual Complete NM-S2 (PPO D-SNP).
Three plans are renamed versions of a 2026 plan — the plan is still here, but under a new name:
- AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC NM-4 (PPO) was AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC NM-0004 (PPO)
- UHC Dual Advantage NM-V1 (PPO D-SNP) was UHC Dual Complete NM-V1 (PPO D-SNP)
- UHC Dual Complete NM-Q1 (PPO D-SNP) was UHC Dual Complete NM-S1 (PPO D-SNP)
One UnitedHealthcare plan offered in the county in 2026 is not returning for 2027. If you are in a plan that is leaving, UnitedHealthcare and Medicare will send a non-renewal notice telling you so. You then have a Special Enrollment Period to pick another plan.
A renamed plan is not the same as an unchanged plan. The contract and benefits can still shift year to year — the ANOC is where you confirm what, if anything, changed for you.
Special Needs Plans in the mix
Five of UnitedHealthcare's 2027 plans in Bernalillo County are Special Needs Plans:
- Two Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs): UHC Complete Care NM-11 and UHC Complete Care Support NM-1A. C-SNPs are for people living with specific chronic conditions. You have to qualify based on diagnosis.
- Three Dual Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs): UHC Dual Advantage NM-V1, UHC Dual Complete NM-Q1, and UHC Dual Complete NM-S2. D-SNPs are for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid.
If you think a SNP might fit, call 1-800-MEDICARE or use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov to check whether you qualify.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, three quick checks can save a lot of trouble in January:
1. Open the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Sign in with your Medicare account so your current prescriptions carry over. 2. Enter your drugs, pharmacy, and the doctors or hospitals you want to keep. The Plan Finder will show which plans cover your drugs and whether a provider is in network. 3. Read the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) and the Summary of Benefits for any plan you are considering. These are the official documents that spell out costs, rules and coverage.
For a plan you are already in, the ANOC that arrived in September compares your 2026 benefits with your 2027 benefits. Keep it until after you decide.
You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A few 2027 program facts to keep in mind
These apply program-wide, not to any one plan:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap on covered drugs rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33. That is a formula input used across the program, not what any particular plan charges.
- The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been published yet. CMS normally announces them later in the fall.
- The coverage gap ("donut hole") was eliminated in 2025. Part D now has three phases.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is still available if you want to spread drug costs across the year in monthly amounts.
What happens if you do nothing
If you do not make a change by December 7, 2026, and your current plan is being offered again in 2027, you stay in it. The 2027 version — with any changes the ANOC describes — takes effect January 1. If your plan is not returning, you will get a letter and a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan.
If you change your mind after January 1, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31, 2027 lets you switch Medicare Advantage plans once or go back to Original Medicare.
