What UnitedHealthcare is offering in Multnomah County for 2027
Portland sits in Multnomah County, and Medicare Advantage plan availability is set at the county level. For 2027, UnitedHealthcare's county lineup breaks down this way:
- Total plans: 9
- Plan types: HMO-POS 3, PPO 6
- Plans with drug coverage: 9 (all of them)
- Special Needs Plans: 4 total — 2 C-SNPs and 2 I-SNPs; 0 D-SNPs
- New for 2027: 1 plan
- Not returning from 2026: 2 plans
The full plan names, in alphabetical order, appear in the table below on this page. We will not quote premiums, copays, deductibles, benefits, networks or star ratings for any of them — those are personal to each plan and change year to year, and the right source is Medicare's own Plan Finder.
What is new and what is not returning
For 2027, UnitedHealthcare is adding AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC OR-7 (HMO-POS), an HMO-POS plan with drug coverage, to its Multnomah County lineup. Two plans offered in 2026 are not on the 2027 list for this county.
If your current plan is one of the two not returning, UnitedHealthcare should send a notice before the Annual Enrollment Period explaining your options. If your plan is continuing, you will receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that lists any adjustments for 2027 — premium, copays, drug tiers, provider network and extra benefits. The ANOC is the one document to read cover to cover before you decide to stay or switch.
The Special Needs Plans on the list
Four of UnitedHealthcare's nine Portland-area plans are Special Needs Plans. SNPs are only for people who meet specific eligibility rules:
- A C-SNP (Chronic Condition SNP) is for people living with a qualifying chronic condition, such as diabetes or certain heart or lung conditions. UnitedHealthcare's two C-SNPs here are UHC Complete Care OR-5 (HMO-POS C-SNP) and UHC Complete Care Support OR-1A (PPO C-SNP).
- An I-SNP (Institutional SNP) is for people who live in, or are expected to live in, a nursing home or similar facility for 90 days or longer. UnitedHealthcare's two I-SNPs here are UHC Care Advantage OR-E001 (PPO I-SNP) and UHC Nursing Home Plan OR-F001 (PPO I-SNP).
UnitedHealthcare is not offering a D-SNP (for people with both Medicare and full Medicaid) in Multnomah County in its 2027 lineup. Other carriers in the county may; the Plan Finder shows all of them.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, do these four things:
1. Read your ANOC. Compare 2027 to 2026 — premium, drug deductible, tier placement for the medicines you take, primary-care and specialist copays, and your out-of-pocket maximum. 2. Check your doctors. Call each one and ask whether they will be in-network for the specific 2027 plan you are considering. HMO-POS and PPO plans handle out-of-network care differently, so the plan type matters. 3. Check your prescriptions. On medicare.gov's Plan Finder, enter your drug list and your preferred pharmacy. The tool shows how each plan would cover each drug for 2027, including whether it is on the formulary and in what tier. 4. If you take expensive drugs, look at the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, an optional program that spreads your Part D out-of-pocket costs across the calendar year in monthly bills instead of all at once at the pharmacy.
If you do nothing, your current plan renews for 2027 — but with whatever changes the ANOC describes. That can be fine; it just should not be a surprise.
2027 numbers that apply program-wide
A few Part D figures are already published for 2027 and apply no matter which plan you choose:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- Part D national base beneficiary premium: $41.33 for 2027 — this is a formula input used across the program, not what any plan actually charges.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes them in the fall, usually in November. We will update our coverage when they do.
