What HealthSpring is offering in Philadelphia County for 2027
Philadelphia is in Philadelphia County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, HealthSpring's roster in the county breaks down this way:
- HMO plans: 6
- PPO plans: 1
- Special Needs Plans: 2 (one D-SNP, one C-SNP)
- Plans that include Part D drug coverage: 7
Every plan the carrier is offering here next year is listed in the table below. The seven plans are: HealthSpring Achieve (HMO C-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO), HealthSpring Preferred PA (HMO), HealthSpring Preferred Plus (HMO), HealthSpring Preferred Savings (HMO), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), and HealthSpring True Choice (PPO).
A note on the corporate name: CMS lists these plans under HealthSpring's parent organization, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). You'll see them marketed as HealthSpring plans.
How the plan types differ
Choosing among HealthSpring's seven plans starts with the plan type, because the type sets the ground rules for how you use care:
- HMO plans generally ask you to use the plan's network and often require a primary care doctor and referrals for specialists. Six of HealthSpring's Philadelphia plans are HMOs.
- PPO plans typically let you see out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost share. HealthSpring True Choice is the carrier's PPO option here.
- Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are HMOs built for a specific group. HealthSpring Achieve is a C-SNP for people with qualifying chronic conditions, and HealthSpring TotalCare Plus is a D-SNP for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid. You have to meet the eligibility rules to join either one.
What is new or not returning for 2027
Short answer: nothing is being added, renamed, or pulled from HealthSpring's Philadelphia lineup. The same seven plan names are coming back for 2027.
That does not mean nothing is changing. Every Medicare Advantage plan sends enrollees an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) in September describing what will be different next year — premiums, deductibles, copays, drug tier placement, provider networks, and extra benefits can all shift from one year to the next. If you have not read your ANOC, that is the single most useful document to pull up before you decide whether to stay or switch.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, 2026, it is worth taking 20 minutes to confirm three things for any plan you are considering:
1. Your doctors. Use the plan's online provider directory, or call the plan directly, to confirm each doctor and facility you use is in network for 2027. Directories update for the new plan year. 2. Your prescriptions. On medicare.gov, the Plan Finder lets you enter your drugs and preferred pharmacy and see each plan's formulary, tier, and expected cost. The plan's own Evidence of Coverage and formulary documents on its website show the same information in detail. 3. Your pharmacy. A plan's drug costs can look different at a preferred pharmacy versus a standard one. Check that your pharmacy is both in-network and preferred, if the plan has that tier.

Part D figures to keep in mind for 2027
Drug coverage rules are shifting slightly. CMS has confirmed the following for 2027:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027: $41.33 (this is a formula input, not what any particular plan charges).
The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") was eliminated in 2025, so Part D now has three phases. The optional Medicare Prescription Payment Plan also remains available if you want to spread drug costs across the year in monthly installments.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those in the fall, usually in November.
