Wellcare's 2027 Medicare Advantage plans in Pittsburgh: two renamed, two gone, one unchanged

Pittsburgh — October 2026. If you have a Wellcare Medicare Advantage plan in Pittsburgh, your lineup for 2027 is going to look a little different. According to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File for the coming plan year, Wellcare — grouped by CMS as Centene (WellCare) — will offer three Medicare Advantage plans in Allegheny County in 2027, down from five this year. Two plans are not returning, two have been renamed, and one keeps the same name. MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent news site, not Wellcare, and 15 other carriers also sell Medicare Advantage plans in the county.

What Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans are available in Pittsburgh for 2027?

In Allegheny County — the county Pittsburgh sits in — Wellcare will offer three Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, and all three are HMO-POS. Two of them are Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), designed for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. All three plans include Part D drug coverage.

The 2027 Wellcare plans, in the order CMS lists them, are:

The table below lists each plan, its type and whether it includes drug coverage. For benefits, networks, copays and star ratings — none of which we can quote here — the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov is the official source.

What is new or not returning from Wellcare in Allegheny County?

Wellcare has no brand-new Medicare Advantage plans in Allegheny County for 2027, and two of its 2026 plans are not being offered again next year. Two more plans are returning under new names.

If you are enrolled in a plan that is not returning, Wellcare will send a non-renewal notice explaining your options and the deadlines to pick something else. If you are in one of the two renamed D-SNPs, your coverage is continuing — but the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mailed in late September is where the specifics live: any changes to the drug list, the pharmacy network, the provider network, cost sharing and extra benefits.

Nothing happens automatically to a plan that is simply renaming or renewing — you do not need to re-enroll. But reading the ANOC is still worth the fifteen minutes, because a plan can change meaningfully from one year to the next even when the name stays the same.

How do I check a 2027 plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?

The fastest way is the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. You enter your ZIP code, add your prescriptions and preferred pharmacy, and the tool will show each 2027 plan's drug costs, formulary tier for your medications, and whether your pharmacy is in network. You can also log in with your Medicare account to save your drug list.

For doctors and hospitals, the Plan Finder links out to each plan's provider directory, but the most reliable check is a two-step one: call the plan's member services number to confirm the provider is in network for 2027, and call the doctor's office to confirm they will accept that specific plan next year. Networks can change on January 1, and the directory you looked at in October may not reflect every January change.

If you prefer to talk to a person, 1-800-MEDICARE is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When is the deadline, and what happens if I do nothing?

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any change you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027.

If you do nothing and your current plan is being offered again next year, you stay enrolled — the plan simply renews with whatever changes are described in the ANOC. If your plan is one of the two Wellcare plans not returning for 2027, you will need to pick a new plan during AEP, or you can use the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31, 2027, to make one change after the year starts.

What 2027 Medicare numbers are already confirmed?

CMS has published a few program-level 2027 Part D figures that apply across all plans with drug coverage:

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those figures later in the fall, usually in November.

The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") was eliminated as of 2025, so Part D now has three phases: deductible, initial coverage, and catastrophic. If drug costs hit hard early in the year, the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread out-of-pocket drug costs across monthly payments instead of paying them at the pharmacy counter.

Frequently asked questions

Is MyMedicarePlans.org affiliated with Wellcare?
No. MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent consumer news and education site. We are not Wellcare, not Centene, and not Medicare. We are reporting on publicly available CMS plan-availability data for Allegheny County. For plan-specific questions, contact Wellcare directly or use medicare.gov.
How do I know if my Wellcare plan is one of the two not returning in 2027?
Wellcare is required to mail a non-renewal notice to any member whose plan will not be offered next year. You should have received that notice, or an Annual Notice of Change for a continuing plan, by the end of September 2026. If you cannot find either, call the member services number on the back of your Wellcare ID card, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
What is a D-SNP, and how do I know if I qualify?
A Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plan is a Medicare Advantage plan designed for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Two of Wellcare's three 2027 plans in Allegheny County are D-SNPs. Eligibility depends on your Medicaid status in Pennsylvania; medicare.gov and your state Medicaid office can confirm whether you qualify.
Do I have to do anything if I want to keep my current Wellcare plan?
If your plan is being offered again in 2027, no — it renews automatically on January 1. But it is still worth reading the Annual Notice of Change, because drug lists, provider networks, premiums and benefits can change from one plan year to the next even when the plan name does not. For personalized help choosing or comparing plans, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.
