A plan not returning for 2027 means it will not be sold in any Tennessee county next year. Because Medicare Advantage plans are offered county by county, a plan on this list may or may not have been offered where you live. If it was, you will get a non-renewal letter from your carrier, and you have options.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are not returning in Tennessee for 2027?
Twenty-five Medicare Advantage plans offered in Tennessee for 2026 do not appear in the CMS 2027 Landscape file for any Tennessee county. For 2027, Tennessee's Medicare Advantage market will include 155 plans from 12 carriers statewide.
The non-renewals span several carriers. Aetna (CVS Health) has three plans leaving: two listings of Aetna Medicare Enhanced (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Signature Giveback (PPO). Centene (WellCare) has six plans leaving, including Wellcare Assist (HMO-POS), Wellcare Dual Access (HMO-POS D-SNP), Wellcare Giveback (HMO-POS), Wellcare Patriot Giveback (HMO-POS) and Wellcare Simple (HMO-POS). Devoted Health is withdrawing six plans, including three DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE PREMIUM plans and three DEVOTED CHOICE PPOs. HealthSpring Preferred Savings (HMO) is leaving. Humana is withdrawing seven, including three Humana Gold Plus HMOs, Humana Together in Health Select (PPO I-SNP), Humana Value Choice H5216-451 (PPO), and two HumanaChoice PPOs. UnitedHealthcare is withdrawing two D-SNPs: UHC Dual Complete TN-S001 and UHC Dual Complete TN-Y2. The full list, with county counts, appears in the tables on this page.
Which non-returning Tennessee plans served the most counties?
Several of the exiting plans were offered in 95 Tennessee counties in 2026, meaning they were available in nearly every county in the state. These include five Wellcare plans (Assist, Dual Access, Giveback, Patriot Giveback and Simple), Humana Together in Health Select (PPO I-SNP), and the two UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete D-SNPs (TN-S001 and TN-Y2).
Other exits were narrower. Three Humana Gold Plus HMOs were offered in roughly 35–36 counties, DEVOTED CHOICE 007 TN served 26 counties, and DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE PREMIUM 017 TN served 17 counties. Several Aetna and Devoted plans were offered in a handful of counties. A plan's county count is the counties it served in 2026, not a guarantee it covered yours.
How will I know if my Tennessee Medicare Advantage plan is leaving in 2027?
You will know in two ways. First, your carrier is required to send a non-renewal notice — often called the Annual Notice of Change or a plan termination letter — before Annual Enrollment 2027 begins on October 15, 2026. Second, you can compare your plan's exact name against the list of 25 plans above and in the table on this page.
Match the plan name exactly as it appears on your member ID card. Names like "Wellcare Assist (HMO-POS)" or "Humana Gold Plus H4461-040 (HMO)" are specific products; a similarly named plan from the same carrier may still be offered for 2027.
What happens if I do nothing and my Tennessee plan is not returning for 2027?
If your Medicare Advantage plan is not returning and you do not choose a new plan, you will be returned to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on January 1, 2027. You will not automatically have Part D prescription drug coverage unless you actively enroll in a stand-alone drug plan.
Original Medicare covers hospital and medical services nationwide, but it does not include the extras many Medicare Advantage plans bundle in. To keep drug coverage or to join a different Medicare Advantage plan, you need to make an active choice.
What Special Enrollment Period and Medigap rights apply when a Tennessee plan is non-renewed?
When CMS confirms a plan non-renewal, affected members get a Special Enrollment Period that runs from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027 to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or to a stand-alone Part D plan. This is in addition to Annual Enrollment 2027, which runs October 15 – December 7, 2026.
A plan non-renewal also triggers a federal Medigap guaranteed-issue right, which lets you buy certain Medicare Supplement policies without medical underwriting within a limited window. The specific Medigap plans available and any state-level protections are governed by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance; confirm specifics with the department before you buy.
How do I check my own county's 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup in Tennessee?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov and enter your ZIP code, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Plan Finder shows every Medicare Advantage and Part D plan available in your specific county for 2027, with the official premiums, cost-sharing and drug lists from each carrier.
Statewide counts come from the CMS Landscape Source File. County-level availability can be very different from the statewide total of 155 plans.
What should Tennessee Medicare members do before December 7, 2026?
Before December 7, 2026, check whether your 2026 plan is on the non-renewal list and, either way, read the Annual Notice of Change your carrier mails each fall. Then compare your options for 2027 on the Medicare Plan Finder.
If you take prescription drugs, enter them into the Plan Finder so it can match plans to your medications and preferred pharmacy. If you see specific doctors, confirm their 2027 network status with the plan directly before you enroll. A choice made during Annual Enrollment 2027 takes effect January 1, 2027.
Where can Tennesseans get free Medicare help?
