SEATTLE — The Annual Enrollment Period opened Oct. 15, 2026, and runs through Dec. 7. Any change you make now takes effect Jan. 1, 2027. If you do nothing, your current Medicare Advantage plan simply renews for next year — with whatever changes its Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) spells out.
Seattle sits in King County, where the Medicare Advantage lineup looks different in 2027 than it did this year. According to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File, King County will have 59 Medicare Advantage plans from 11 carriers in 2027. Eighteen plans are new, 27 are not returning, and the county is seeing a new carrier join the mix. That is a lot of moving pieces — and a good reason to compare, even if you plan to stay put.
What King County's 2027 lineup looks like
For 2027, the county's 59 Medicare Advantage plans break down as 30 HMO, 12 HMO-POS and 17 PPO. All 59 include drug coverage. Special Needs Plans (SNPs) — which are built for people with specific situations — include 18 Dual-Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, 7 Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs) and 4 Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs).
Carriers offering Medicare Advantage in King County for 2027 are, in alphabetical order: Aetna (CVS Health), AgeRight Advantage, Centene (WellCare), Community Health Plan of WA Medicare Advantage, Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Molina Healthcare of Washington, Inc., Regence BlueShield and UnitedHealthcare. The table below lists every plan by carrier.
What is new for 2027
Three things stand out this year in King County:
- 18 new plans are entering the market, giving shoppers more options to weigh.
- 27 plans are not returning. If yours is one of them, your carrier must notify you, and you will need to pick a new plan or you'll be moved to Original Medicare.
- A new carrier, Devoted Health, is on the King County menu for 2027 with 6 HMO plans.
At the program level, two Part D figures also change in 2027: the out-of-pocket cap on prescriptions goes from $2,100 in 2026 to $2,400 in 2027, and the maximum Part D deductible rises from $615 in 2026 to $700 in 2027. CMS publishes the 2027 Part B standard premium, Part B deductible and IRMAA income brackets later in the fall, usually in November.
A step-by-step way to compare
You don't have to compare 59 plans. You need to compare the handful that actually fit your life. Here is a reliable order of operations.
1. Read your plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Your current plan mailed you an ANOC in September. It lists every change for 2027 — premium, deductible, copays, drug tiers, extra benefits, provider network. Read it even if you love your plan. This is step one.
2. Make a short list of what you actually use. Write down your doctors and clinics, the hospital you want to be sent to, the prescriptions you take (with doses), and the pharmacy you prefer. This is your checklist for every plan you consider.
3. Open the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov/plan-compare. Log in with your Medicare account so your drugs save between sessions. Enter your ZIP code (Seattle ZIPs sit inside King County, so you'll see the county's plans). Add your drugs and your pharmacy.
4. Check each plan against your list in this order:
- Doctors and hospitals. Is your primary care doctor in-network? Your specialists? UW Medicine, Swedish, Virginia Mason Franciscan, Harborview, Overlake, Kaiser Permanente's own facilities? Networks are set by the plan, not the county. Confirm on the plan's own online directory and, for peace of mind, call the clinic.
- Drug coverage. The Plan Finder shows your yearly drug cost under each plan based on the drugs you entered. Confirm your drugs are on the formulary and check for prior authorization or step therapy.
- Pharmacy. The same drug can cost very different amounts at a "preferred" pharmacy versus a "standard" one. Make sure the pharmacy you actually use is the preferred tier.
- Plan type. HMO plans generally keep you in-network and need referrals. HMO-POS plans let you go out-of-network for some services. PPO plans give you more out-of-network flexibility, usually at a higher cost. In 2027 King County has 30 HMO, 12 HMO-POS and 17 PPO.
- Total cost, not just premium. Add the monthly premium, the deductible, your expected copays and the drug costs the Plan Finder estimates.
- Extra benefits. Dental, vision, hearing, over-the-counter allowances and fitness benefits vary a lot. Only count benefits you will actually use.
- Star Ratings. CMS rates plans 1 to 5 stars on quality and member experience. Use them as one input, not a tiebreaker.
5. If a Special Needs Plan fits, look there too. If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, a D-SNP may coordinate your coverage. If you have a qualifying chronic condition, a C-SNP is built around it. If you live in a nursing facility, an I-SNP may be right. King County has 18 D-SNPs, 7 C-SNPs and 4 I-SNPs for 2027.
6. Call before you commit. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (24/7) with questions about enrollment, or call the plan directly to confirm a doctor, drug or benefit. Get the representative's name and the date.
What happens if you do nothing
If your current plan is returning in 2027, you stay enrolled with the changes in your ANOC. If your plan is one of the 27 not returning in King County, you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (and consider a stand-alone Part D plan).
One more date to keep in mind: the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs Jan. 1 – March 31, 2027. If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan on Jan. 1 and change your mind, you get one switch during that window.
By the numbers
Medicare Part B premium, 2006–2026
The standard monthly Part B premium has climbed from $88.50 in 2006 to $202.90 in 2026. Hover any point for that year’s premium.
