What Anthem is offering in Los Angeles County for 2027
For plan year 2027, Anthem has 13 Medicare Advantage plans available in Los Angeles County. By plan type, that breaks down to 2 HMO plans and 11 HMO-POS plans. Every one of the 13 includes Part D prescription drug coverage, so an Anthem enrollee here would not need to add a separate drug plan.
Anthem is one of 20 carriers offering Medicare Advantage in the county next year. Across all carriers, Los Angeles County has 124 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 — so Anthem's lineup is one slice of a much larger local menu.
The table below lists every Anthem plan available in the county, with its plan type and drug-coverage status.
The Special Needs Plans in the lineup
Seven of Anthem's 13 plans are Special Needs Plans (SNPs). SNPs are built for people who fit a specific situation, and you have to qualify to enroll:
- D-SNP (Dual-Eligible): 1 plan — Anthem Full Dual Advantage Aligned, for people who have both Medicare and full Medi-Cal.
- C-SNP (Chronic Condition): 5 plans — the CareMore Chronic Care, Chronic Care 2, Kidney Care, Lung Care, and Lung Care 2 plans, each limited to people with the condition the plan is designed around.
- I-SNP (Institutional): 1 plan — Anthem I CareMore Home Care, aimed at people who need a nursing-home level of care but may receive it at home.
The remaining 6 Anthem plans are general Medicare Advantage plans open to anyone with Medicare who lives in the service area, including the Anthem Medicare Advantage, Anthem Prime, and Anthem Select HMO-POS plans.
What's new, what's not returning for 2027
For Anthem in Los Angeles County, the year-over-year comparison from CMS's Landscape files is quiet: 0 plans are being discontinued, and 0 are brand new.
That does not mean nothing is changing. Every renewing plan can adjust its premium, deductible, copays, drug formulary, provider network, and extra benefits from one year to the next. Those changes show up in the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that Anthem mails to current members by the end of September. If you have an Anthem plan today, that ANOC is the single most important piece of mail you will get this fall — read it before you decide whether to stay put.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, three checks are worth doing for any plan you are considering — Anthem or otherwise:
1. Doctors and hospitals. Confirm each provider you want to keep is in the plan's network for 2027. Call the provider's billing office and ask about the specific plan by name; networks can change on January 1. 2. Prescriptions. Put every medication you take into the plan's 2027 formulary. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your drug list once and compare how each plan would cover it. 3. Pharmacy. Check that your usual pharmacy is a preferred pharmacy under the plan, since cost-sharing can differ by pharmacy.
If you prefer to do this by phone, call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), which is open 24/7.
The 2027 Part D changes that apply to every drug plan
Two Part D figures are moving next year, and they apply to the drug coverage inside Medicare Advantage plans as well as stand-alone Part D plans:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027, up from $2,100 in 2026. Once you hit it, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the calendar year.
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027, up from $615 in 2026. Plans can set a lower deductible, but not a higher one.
The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") remains gone — Part D has three phases now. And the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you spread your out-of-pocket drug costs across the calendar year in monthly bills instead of paying at the pharmacy counter, continues in 2027. You can opt in through your drug plan.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes them in the fall, usually in November.
Dates to keep in mind
- October 15 – December 7, 2026: Annual Enrollment Period. Changes take effect January 1, 2027.
- January 1, 2027: New coverage begins.
- January 1 – March 31, 2027: Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan on January 1, you get one chance to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare.
If you do nothing, your current plan simply renews for 2027 — with whatever changes are described in its ANOC.
