What UnitedHealthcare is offering in Los Angeles County for 2027
Los Angeles sits inside Los Angeles County, and Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. For plan year 2027, UnitedHealthcare has 8 Medicare Advantage plans available in the county:
- 1 HMO
- 7 HMO-POS
- 2 Special Needs Plans (both Chronic Condition SNPs — one HMO C-SNP and one HMO-POS C-SNP)
- 8 include Part D prescription drug coverage
The table below lists every UnitedHealthcare plan available in the county for 2027. Spellings and plan IDs come straight from the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File.
What is new, what is not returning, and what has been renamed
Three things to look for in UnitedHealthcare's 2027 lineup:
- New for 2027: AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC CA-45 (HMO-POS).
- Not returning for 2027: one UnitedHealthcare plan from the 2026 lineup is being discontinued in the county. If you are enrolled in a plan that is leaving, UnitedHealthcare is required to send you written notice, and you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a different plan.
- Renamed on the same contract: three plans — AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC CA-34P (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage Giveback from UHC CA-30P (HMO-POS), and AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx CA-MA1P (HMO-POS). A rename does not mean the plan is unchanged; your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) is the document that spells out what, if anything, is different for 2027.
We are not allowed — and would not try — to compare premiums, copays, networks or star ratings here. Those are the details you should check against your own situation before Dec. 7.
Special Needs Plans in the UnitedHealthcare lineup
Two of UnitedHealthcare's eight Los Angeles County plans for 2027 are Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (C-SNPs): UHC Complete Care CA-18P (HMO-POS C-SNP) and UHC Complete Care Support CA-1AP (HMO C-SNP). C-SNPs are built for people living with certain qualifying chronic conditions, and enrollment requires documentation of the condition. UnitedHealthcare is not offering a Dual Eligible SNP (D-SNP) or an Institutional SNP (I-SNP) in the county for 2027.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions before Dec. 7
The right plan for you depends on who you see and what you take. A few steps that cost nothing:
1. Read the Annual Notice of Change. If you are already in a UnitedHealthcare plan, this arrived (or is arriving) by late September. It lists the 2027 changes to your plan — including a rename, if yours is one of the three. 2. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code and your medications. It will show which Los Angeles County plans cover each drug, with the plan's own 2027 cost-sharing. 3. Check the provider directory. Call your doctors' offices and ask whether they will be in-network for the specific plan ID you are considering for 2027 — not just "UnitedHealthcare." 4. Confirm the pharmacy. Preferred pharmacies can change year to year. 5. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24/7, for free help comparing options.
What is confirmed for 2027 at the program level
A few Part D figures CMS has already set for 2027:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- Part D national base beneficiary premium: $41.33 for 2027 (a formula input, not what any specific plan charges).
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes them later in the fall. We would rather tell you to wait a few weeks than guess.
If you want to stay put
Nothing has to happen. If your UnitedHealthcare plan is being offered again for 2027, it renews automatically on Jan. 1 — with any changes described in your ANOC. If your plan is the one not returning, you will get a non-renewal letter and a Special Enrollment Period to choose something else.
