Oakland is in Alameda County, where Kaiser Permanente is offering three Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File. All three are HMOs, all three include drug coverage, and one is a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) for people who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal. None of Kaiser's current Alameda County plans are leaving for 2027, and the carrier is not adding a new one. That does not mean nothing is changing — every plan sends an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) each fall with the specifics.
MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent news and education site; we are not Kaiser Permanente, and nine other carriers also offer Medicare Advantage plans in Alameda County next year (32 plans in total across all carriers).
Kaiser Permanente's 2027 plans in Alameda County
The table below lists every Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage plan available in Alameda County for 2027. In alphabetical order, they are:
- Kaiser Permanente Dual Complete North P16 (HMO D-SNP) — HMO D-SNP, with drug coverage
- Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage Alam., SF, Napa (HMO) — HMO, with drug coverage
- Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage Basic Alameda (HMO) — HMO, with drug coverage
All three are HMOs, which generally means you use a defined network and often need a referral to see a specialist. All three bundle Part D prescription drug coverage. One — Kaiser Permanente Dual Complete North P16 — is a D-SNP designed for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medi-Cal; eligibility rules apply.
For premiums, copays, deductibles, star ratings, provider directories and drug formularies, go to the plan's own Evidence of Coverage or look the plan up on the Medicare Plan Finder.
What's new, what's not returning
For 2027, Kaiser Permanente is not adding any new Medicare Advantage plans in Alameda County, and it is not pulling any existing plans out of the county. No plans were renamed either.
That is useful news if you are already enrolled — your plan should renew automatically on January 1, 2027, if you do nothing. But "renew" does not mean "identical." The ANOC your plan mails (or emails) in late September explains what is changing for next year: the premium, the drug tiers, the copays, the network, the extras. Read it before December 7 so you still have time to switch if the changes do not work for you.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before you keep or switch a plan, do three quick checks:
1. Your doctors. Confirm each physician, specialist and preferred hospital is in-network for 2027. Networks can change year to year. Call the provider's office and ask specifically about the plan you are considering by name — the plan ID helps. 2. Your prescriptions. Pull up each medication on the plan's 2027 formulary. Look at the tier, any prior-authorization or step-therapy flags, and the preferred pharmacies. 3. Your total cost, not just the premium. Medicare Plan Finder on medicare.gov lets you enter your drugs and preferred pharmacy and will estimate your yearly out-of-pocket for each plan.
2027 numbers worth knowing
A few program-level figures CMS has already confirmed for 2027:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (it is $2,100 in 2026).
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (it is $615 in 2026).
- The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33 — that is a formula input, not the premium any one plan charges.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, had not been announced as of this writing. CMS typically publishes them in the fall, usually November.
If drug costs are a concern, ask whether the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — which lets you spread Part D out-of-pocket costs across the plan year in monthly bills — makes sense for you.
