HIALEAH, Fla. — This fall, some Medicare Advantage members in Hialeah are opening a letter they did not expect: a notice that their current plan will not be offered in 2027. According to the CMS 2027 Landscape file for Miami-Dade County, 30 Medicare Advantage plans sold in the county this year are not returning next year. If you are enrolled in one of them, you have a decision to make before the end of the year — but you also have more time and more options than most people realize.

How do I know if my Hialeah Medicare Advantage plan is ending in 2027?

Your plan is required to send you a written non-renewal notice, usually arriving in late September or early October 2026. The letter will say the plan will not be offered in your area in 2027 and will explain your options.

A non-renewal notice is different from the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that every Advantage plan sends each fall. The ANOC lists what is changing in a plan that is continuing. A non-renewal letter says the plan itself is going away. If you cannot find your letter, call the member services number on the back of your plan ID card, or check your plan's member portal.

Which Medicare Advantage plans are not returning to Miami-Dade County in 2027?

CMS's 2027 Landscape file shows 30 plans offered in Miami-Dade County in 2026 that are not on the 2027 list. Hialeah is in Miami-Dade County, so these are the plans affected locally. The full table below lists every one by carrier; in alphabetical order by carrier, they are:

If your plan is not on this list, it is renewing for 2027 — read the ANOC it mailed you to see what is changing.

What happens in Hialeah if I do nothing after my plan ends?

If your plan is not renewing and you make no choice by Dec. 31, 2026, you will be moved to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) on Jan. 1, 2027. You will not be left without health coverage — but there are two important gaps.

First, Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage, so you would need to join a stand-alone Part D plan to keep that benefit. Second, the extras many Advantage plans include — things like dental, vision, hearing, transportation or over-the-counter allowances — do not carry over. Original Medicare also has no yearly out-of-pocket limit on Parts A and B, which is why many people pair it with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy.

What are my choices and when is the deadline?

You have three paths, and more time than the usual Dec. 7 deadline:

1. Pick a new Medicare Advantage plan for 2027. CMS lists 101 Advantage plans from 16 carriers in Miami-Dade County for 2027. You can compare them on the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. 2. Switch to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan. You can also consider a Medigap policy. 3. Do nothing and accept the automatic move to Original Medicare on Jan. 1, 2027 (you can still add Part D later during your Special Enrollment Period).

Because your plan is being discontinued, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs through Feb. 28, 2027. During that window you can join another Medicare Advantage plan (with or without drug coverage) or a stand-alone Part D plan. You can also use the regular Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026) if you want your new coverage to start Jan. 1.

There is one more right worth knowing: when a Medicare Advantage plan is terminated, members generally have a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting. Florida has its own rules on which policies qualify and for how long, so check with the Florida Department of Financial Services or call the insurer directly before you cancel anything.

What is changing about Medicare drug coverage in 2027?

A few program-level numbers are already set for 2027 and are worth knowing as you compare plans. The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). The maximum Part D deductible any plan can charge rises to $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). CMS has not yet published the 2027 Part B standard premium, Part B deductible, or IRMAA income brackets — those usually come out in November.

Also still available: the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you spread your drug costs across the calendar year in monthly bills instead of paying them at the pharmacy counter.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

I never got a non-renewal letter. Does that mean my plan is continuing?
Most likely, yes. Plans must mail non-renewal notices by early October, and if yours is continuing it will instead send an Annual Notice of Change describing what is different for 2027. If you are unsure, call the member services number on your plan ID card or check your account on the plan's website.
If my plan ends, when does my Special Enrollment Period end?
The Special Enrollment Period for members of a non-renewing Medicare Advantage plan runs through Feb. 28, 2027. You can also make a change during the regular Annual Enrollment Period, which ends Dec. 7, 2026. Picking a plan by Dec. 7 means coverage starts Jan. 1; choosing later in the SEP means coverage starts the first of the month after you enroll.
Will I lose coverage on Jan. 1 if I don't choose a new plan?
No. You will automatically be enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on Jan. 1, 2027. The gap is prescriptions — Original Medicare does not include drug coverage — so you would need to add a stand-alone Part D plan to avoid a late-enrollment penalty later.
Can I buy a Medigap policy if my Advantage plan is ending?
Federal law gives members of a terminating Medicare Advantage plan a guaranteed-issue right to certain Medigap policies, meaning insurers cannot turn you down or charge you more based on health. Florida has specific rules about which policies qualify and the timing, so confirm the details with the Florida Department of Financial Services or the insurer before you drop your current coverage. --- For personalized help comparing your 2027 options, use the Medicare Plan Finder at **medicare.gov** or call **1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)**, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
