Wellcare's 2027 Medicare Advantage plans in St. Louis: six on the shelf, three renamed
ST. LOUIS — Fall 2026. Wellcare's 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup for St. Louis city is set, and it looks a little different from the one on the shelf today. The carrier will offer six Medicare Advantage plans in the city for 2027, down from seven in 2026. Three of the returning plans have new names, one plan is not coming back, and no brand-new Wellcare plans are launching here. What Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans are offered in St. Louis for 2027?
Wellcare has 6 Medicare Advantage plans in St. Louis city for 2027. By type, that is 3 HMO-POS plans and 3 PPO plans. Three of the six are Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Five of the six include Part D prescription drug coverage; one is a PPO without drug coverage.
The table below lists every Wellcare plan available in the county for 2027, with its plan type and whether it includes drug coverage. CMS groups Wellcare under the parent company Centene (WellCare).
Which Wellcare plans are new, renamed, or not returning in St. Louis for 2027?
No Wellcare plans are new in St. Louis city for 2027, one plan is not returning, and three returning plans have been renamed. The renamed plans are Wellcare Home State Health Dual Access (HMO-POS D-SNP), formerly Wellcare Dual Access (HMO-POS D-SNP); Wellcare Home State Health Dual Access Open (PPO D-SNP), formerly Wellcare Dual Access Open (PPO D-SNP); and Wellcare Home State Health Dual Reserve (HMO-POS D-SNP), formerly Wellcare Dual Reserve (HMO-POS D-SNP).
A rename does not necessarily mean the benefits are the same or different — only the Annual Notice of Change and the 2027 Evidence of Coverage can tell you what actually changed. If you are currently in a Wellcare plan, that ANOC should have arrived in late September.
What are Special Needs Plans, and how many does Wellcare offer here?
Wellcare offers 3 Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) in St. Louis city for 2027 and no Chronic Condition (C-SNP) or Institutional (I-SNP) plans. A D-SNP is a Medicare Advantage plan designed for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. Eligibility depends on your Medicaid status, which Missouri administers through MO HealthNet.
If you are not sure whether you qualify for Medicaid in Missouri, you can check with the state before you shop a D-SNP. Enrolling in the wrong type of plan for your situation is one of the most common and most fixable mistakes during enrollment season.
How do I check a Wellcare plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. It lets you enter your ZIP code, your prescriptions and your pharmacy, then shows how each plan in St. Louis city handles them. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Three checks are worth doing for any plan before you enroll:
- Look up each of your doctors and your preferred hospital in the plan's provider directory for 2027.
- Enter every prescription you take into the Plan Finder to see how it is covered under that plan's 2027 formulary.
- Confirm your pharmacy is in-network for 2027 — pharmacy networks can change from year to year.
Plan documents (the Summary of Benefits and the Evidence of Coverage) live on the carrier's own website and will tell you the specifics for each plan.
What is the Annual Enrollment deadline, and what happens if I do nothing?
Annual Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. A change you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. If you do nothing, your current plan renews automatically — as long as it is being offered in St. Louis city for 2027 — with any changes listed in its Annual Notice of Change.
If your plan is one of the ones not returning for 2027, you have a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31, 2027) also lets Medicare Advantage members make one switch after the year begins.
What is changing for Part D in 2027?
Two Part D figures are confirmed for 2027. The annual out-of-pocket cap on covered drugs rises to $2,400 in 2027 (from $2,100 in 2026). The maximum Part D deductible a plan can charge rises to $700 in 2027 (from $615 in 2026). The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33 — that is a formula input CMS uses, not the premium any specific plan charges.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes them in the fall, usually in November. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you spread drug costs across the year in monthly bills, continues to be available.
