Key takeaways

  • In Dallas County, 29 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 20 are new for 2027, 9 are renamed, and 55 are continuing.
  • American Health Advantage of Texas will not offer plans in the county next year; Texas Independence Health Plan is new to the county.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026, with changes taking effect Jan. 1, 2027; doing nothing means your current plan renews if it is offered again.
  • If your plan is not renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to pick a different Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, or return to Original Medicare.

Dallas, Texas — Fall 2026. The Medicare Advantage menu that Dallas County shoppers will see when the Annual Enrollment Period opens on Oct. 15 looks noticeably different from this year's. According to CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, 29 plans available in 2026 will not return for 2027, 20 are brand new, and one carrier is leaving the county while another is arriving.

That churn matters because Dallas is in Dallas County, where plan availability is set, and because a plan that is not offered next year will not simply "roll over." If your plan is on the exit list, you have choices to make — and a special window to make them.

What the 2027 lineup looks like

For plan year 2026, Dallas County has 93 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers: 36 HMOs, 20 HMO-POS plans, 35 PPOs and 2 PFFS plans. All 93 include drug coverage, and 35 are Special Needs Plans (for people with specific chronic conditions, both Medicare and Medicaid, or who live in an institution).

The carrier mix going into AEP includes Aetna (CVS Health), American Health Advantage of Texas, Baylor Scott & White Health Plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Centene (WellCare), Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, Molina Healthcare of Texas, ProCare Advantage, Provider Partners Health Plans, UnitedHealthcare and Verda Health Plan of Texas. The table below lists every plan by carrier.

Who is leaving, who is arriving

One carrier is pulling out of Dallas County for 2027: American Health Advantage of Texas, which offered a single institutional Special Needs Plan here. One carrier is new: Texas Independence Health Plan, which is bringing institutional SNP options to the county.

Among the 29 plans not returning, several carriers are reshaping their footprint:

The 20 new-for-2027 plans skew heavily toward dual-eligible and chronic-condition SNPs. New names include Aetna Medicare Enhanced Extra (PPO), Aetna Medicare QMB Only Care (HMO D-SNP), Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), several Wellpoint "Select" plans from Elevance (chronic care and dual advantage variations), Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Select (HMO-POS), Humana DaVita Kidney Care (PPO C-SNP), Humana Gold Plus – Diabetes and Heart (HMO C-SNP), Humana Together in Health (PPO I-SNP), Humana Value Choice (PPO), two Texas Independence Health Plan institutional SNPs, and three new UHC Dual Complete plans (TX-Q6, TX-Y1 and UHC Dual Advantage TX-V11).

Separately, 9 plans are keeping the same bones but changing names, including several Aetna D-SNP renames and a UnitedHealthcare regional PPO that becomes AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC TX-61. Another 22 plans have a change in premium, deductible, type or name — the details for each one live in that plan's Annual Notice of Change.

If your plan is leaving

If your 2026 Medicare Advantage plan is on the "not returning" list, your carrier will send you a notice. You have two options:

1. Pick a different Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan during AEP (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026), effective Jan. 1, 2027. 2. Use the Special Enrollment Period that CMS grants when a plan is non-renewed. It generally runs from Dec. 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027, and it lets you join another Medicare Advantage plan or Part D plan, or go back to Original Medicare and buy a stand-alone drug plan.

The non-renewal SEP is the safety net specifically for people in this situation — you are not locked into whatever happens by Dec. 7.

What stays the same (and what is new program-wide)

Dallas County continues to be a market with every major plan type: HMO, HMO-POS, PPO (including regional PPO) and PFFS. Fifty-five plans continue from 2026 into 2027 with no name change.

A few 2027 program-level numbers CMS has already confirmed:

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, are published by CMS later in the fall — typically in November. Until then, no one has the official numbers.

How to compare without getting overwhelmed

A practical path through 93 options:

By the numbers

Medicare Part B premium, 2006–2026

The standard monthly Part B premium has climbed from $88.50 in 2006 to $202.90 in 2026. Hover any point for that year’s premium.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do nothing during AEP?
If your current Medicare Advantage plan is offered again in 2027, it renews automatically on Jan. 1 with the changes described in your Annual Notice of Change. If your plan is not offered again, you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan or return to Original Medicare.
When exactly can I make changes for 2027 coverage?
The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026. A change made in that window starts Jan. 1, 2027. There is also a Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from Jan. 1 – March 31, 2027, during which someone already in a Medicare Advantage plan can switch once.
How do I know if my Dallas plan is one of the 29 leaving?
Your carrier is required to send a non-renewal notice. You can also look up your plan name on Medicare's Plan Finder at medicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24/7.
Does Dallas County really have a new carrier for 2027?
Yes. Texas Independence Health Plan is new to the Dallas County Medicare Advantage market for 2027, offering institutional Special Needs Plans. At the same time, American Health Advantage of Texas will not offer plans in the county next year. ## Where to go for personalized help For plan-specific details — premiums, copays, networks, formularies and star ratings — use the Medicare Plan Finder at **medicare.gov/plan-compare** or call **1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)**, TTY **1-877-486-2048**, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Content Integrity Standards

  • No invented figures. Program-level numbers come from CMS / Medicare.gov; we never use placeholder data.
  • No plan rankings or recommendations. This is educational content. We don't rank, score, or recommend specific plans.
  • AI-assisted, human-reviewed. Articles are produced with AI-assisted tools and reviewed by the responsible desk before publishing.
  • Inline sourcing. Facts and figures are cited to primary sources — CMS, SSA, and Medicare.gov.
  • Correction transparency. We fix errors openly and note when a page was last updated.
  • Not a government site. MyMedicarePlans.org is privately owned and not affiliated with or endorsed by Medicare or any government agency.
