What HealthSpring is offering in Harris County for 2027
For the 2027 plan year, HealthSpring has 8 Medicare Advantage plans available in Harris County, the county that includes Houston. By plan type, that is 7 HMOs and 1 PPO. All 8 plans include Part D prescription drug coverage.
Two of the 8 are Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), designed for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. HealthSpring is not offering any Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs) or Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs) in the county for 2027.
The table below lists every HealthSpring plan available in Harris County for 2027, with its plan type and drug-coverage status. CMS lists these plans under HealthSpring's parent organization, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC).
What is new, renamed, or not returning
Compared with 2026, the HealthSpring roster in Harris County has two changes worth noting:
- New for 2027: HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP). This is a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan, meaning it is built for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid.
- Renamed for 2027: HealthSpring Preferred Extra Savings (HMO) — this plan was called HealthSpring Preferred Full Savings (HMO) in 2026. Same carrier, new name. The Annual Notice of Change mailed to current members will spell out exactly what, if anything, changed about the plan itself.
No HealthSpring plans in the county are being discontinued for 2027.
HMO, PPO and D-SNP — what the labels mean
HealthSpring's 2027 Harris County lineup includes three kinds of Medicare Advantage plans:
- HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): You generally use the plan's network of doctors and hospitals, and you may need a referral to see a specialist.
- PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): You can usually see providers outside the network, though you'll typically pay more than you would in-network.
- HMO D-SNP (Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan): An HMO designed only for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Eligibility rules apply.
Every HealthSpring plan on the Harris County list for 2027 includes Part D drug coverage, so you would not need to buy a stand-alone drug plan alongside one.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before the December 7, 2026 deadline, this is the review most people find useful:
1. Open your ANOC. If you're already in a HealthSpring plan, the Annual Notice of Change describes what is different about your plan for 2027 compared with 2026. 2. Go to medicare.gov's Plan Finder. Enter your ZIP code, your prescription drugs, and your pharmacies. The tool will show you the 2027 cost and coverage details for each plan, including HealthSpring's. 3. Check the plan's provider directory. Confirm that your primary care doctor, your specialists, and your preferred hospital are in-network for the specific plan you're considering. Networks can differ from one plan to another even within the same carrier. 4. Check the plan's formulary. This is the plan's list of covered drugs. Make sure each of your prescriptions appears, and look at which "tier" each one sits on. 5. Call if you want to talk it through. 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) is available 24/7.
If you do nothing by December 7, your current plan renews for 2027 as long as it's still offered — with the changes described in your ANOC. There is no penalty for staying.
A few 2027 program numbers to keep in mind
Some Medicare figures for 2027 are already set, and some aren't yet:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs reaches that amount, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the calendar year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can set a lower deductible, but not higher.
- Part B premium and deductible for 2027: CMS announces these in the fall, usually in November. The 2027 IRMAA income brackets come out at the same time.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan continues to be available in 2027 — this is an option to spread your drug costs across the year in monthly payments instead of paying at the pharmacy.
