NORTH LAS VEGAS — When the 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup opens for enrollment on October 15, 2026, shoppers in and around North Las Vegas will see nine plans that were not on the shelf a year ago. North Las Vegas is in Clark County, where CMS's 2027 Landscape file shows those nine brand-new plans coming from six carriers: Aetna (CVS Health), Centene (WellCare), Humana, SCAN Health Plan, Select Health and UnitedHealthcare.

A new plan is not the same as a renewing one. It has no history yet with your doctors, your pharmacy or the Star Ratings program. That is not a mark against it — it is just a fact to work around when you compare options before the December 7, 2026 deadline.

What Medicare Advantage plans are new in North Las Vegas for 2027?

Nine of the 72 Medicare Advantage plans offered in Clark County for 2027 are new — meaning they were not sold here in 2026. They come from six carriers. Listed alphabetically by carrier, the new plans are:

The table on this page lists every 2027 plan sold in the county, both new and returning, so you can see how the newcomers fit into the fuller picture.

What plan types and Special Needs Plans are in the 2027 newcomers?

The nine new plans break down by type into four HMOs, two HMO-POS plans and three PPOs. Five of the nine are Special Needs Plans — four Dual Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid, and one Chronic Condition SNP (C-SNP) for people living with specific conditions such as diabetes and chronic heart failure.

Special Needs Plans are not open to everyone. If a plan has "D-SNP" in its name, you generally need to qualify for Medicaid as well as Medicare. If it has "C-SNP," you need a qualifying diagnosis your doctor can confirm. If neither applies to you, the general HMO, HMO-POS and PPO newcomers are the ones to look at.

Do the new 2027 plans include prescription drug coverage?

Seven of the nine new plans include Part D prescription drug coverage built in. Two do not: Select Health Medicare Veterans (HMO) and AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx NV-MA2 (HMO-POS). Plans without drug coverage are often designed for people who get drug benefits elsewhere — for example, through the VA.

If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that does not include drugs and you do not have other creditable drug coverage, you generally cannot add a stand-alone Part D plan on top of it, and you may face a late-enrollment penalty later. That is a question worth asking before you sign anything.

For context on the Part D side, CMS has confirmed the 2027 Part D out-of-pocket cap will be $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026) and the maximum Part D deductible will be $700 (up from $615 in 2026).

How is a brand-new Medicare Advantage plan different from a renewing one?

A renewing plan has a track record. It has a Star Rating based on past member experience, past provider directories you may already know, and a formulary your pharmacy has had time to get used to. A brand-new plan has none of that history yet. Under CMS rules, new plans are not assigned a Star Rating until they have enough data — usually a few years in.

That is a program fact, not a reason to avoid new plans. Many new plans are launched by carriers that have been in the market for years, and the networks and formularies may draw from the same contracts the insurer already uses. It just means you cannot lean on a rating to shortcut your homework. You have to look directly at the plan's own documents and tools.

How can I check a new plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?

The fastest, most accurate check runs through Medicare's own tools. Here is a simple order of operations:

1. Go to the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov/plan-compare. Enter your ZIP code and your prescriptions exactly as you take them (dose and frequency). 2. Filter for the plan you are curious about. The Plan Finder will show whether each drug is on the formulary, what tier it sits on and which pharmacies have the lowest cost-share. 3. Click into the plan and open its provider directory. Search your primary care doctor, any specialists you see and the hospital you prefer. For a brand-new plan, directories may still be filling in — if a doctor is missing, call the plan directly to confirm. 4. Call the doctor's office too. Ask specifically whether they are contracted with that plan name for 2027. "They take Humana" or "they take UnitedHealthcare" is not detailed enough; plans vary within a carrier. 5. If you prefer to talk it through, call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24/7.

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any change you make takes effect January 1, 2027. If you do nothing, your current plan simply renews (if it is still offered next year) with the changes described in the Annual Notice of Change your plan mailed you in September.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enroll in one of the new 2027 plans before October 15, 2026?
No. New plan details become shoppable on the Medicare Plan Finder in early October, and you can enroll between October 15 and December 7, 2026 for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. Outside those dates you generally need a Special Enrollment Period.
If I pick a new plan and don't like it, am I stuck for all of 2027?
Not necessarily. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31, 2027. During that window, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan once, or go back to Original Medicare (and add a stand-alone Part D plan).
Why does one of the new plans not have a Star Rating?
Under CMS rules, Medicare Advantage plans need enough enrollment and claims history before they get a Star Rating — typically a few years. A new plan without a rating is simply new; it is not a quality judgment. Look at the plan's own benefit documents, formulary and provider directory instead.
What happens if I don't do anything by December 7, 2026?
Your current plan renews automatically for 2027 if the carrier is still offering it, with any changes spelled out in the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) you received in September. If your plan is not being offered next year, you will get a non-renewal notice from the plan and a Special Enrollment Period to choose something else. --- If you want help sorting through the newcomers alongside the plans you already know, start at **medicare.gov** or call **1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)**, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Both are free, and both will give you answers tied to your own doctors, your own drug list and your own ZIP code.
