Key takeaways

  • Aetna is offering 12 Medicare Advantage plans in Harris County for 2027: 8 HMOs and 4 PPOs, all with drug coverage.
  • Four of those are Special Needs Plans (2 C-SNPs and 2 D-SNPs); two plans are new for 2027 and four were renamed.
  • None of Aetna's current Houston-area plans are leaving for 2027, so if you do nothing your plan renews on January 1, 2027.
  • You have until December 7, 2026 to check that your doctors and prescriptions are still covered under your 2027 plan.

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any change you make takes effect January 1, 2027. If you do nothing, your current plan simply renews next year as described in the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mailed you.

Aetna's 2027 lineup in Harris County, at a glance

Houston is in Harris County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, Aetna's roster here includes:

The table below lists every Aetna plan offered in Harris County for 2027, in alphabetical order.

What is new, and what was renamed

Aetna is adding two plans in Harris County for 2027:

Four plans are keeping the same plan ID but using a new name for 2027. If you are currently enrolled, you will see the new name on your 2027 member materials:

The naming is worth a careful second look. Notice that "Full Dual Care" in 2026 becomes "Full Dual Extra Care" in 2027, and a different plan takes over the "Full Dual Care" name. The Annual Notice of Change from Aetna spells out which plan you are actually in and what is changing inside it.

No Aetna plans are leaving Harris County for 2027.

Who the Special Needs Plans are for

Four of Aetna's 2027 plans in Harris County are Special Needs Plans. SNPs are only open to people who meet specific rules:

If you are not sure whether you qualify, Medicare and the plan itself can confirm before you enroll.

How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions

Before December 7, 2026, it is worth running three quick checks on any 2027 plan you are considering — whether it is new to you or the one you already have:

1. Doctors and hospitals. Use the plan's 2027 provider directory, not this year's. HMOs and PPOs handle out-of-network care differently, so confirm each doctor you see is in-network for the exact 2027 plan. 2. Prescriptions. Enter every drug you take into the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. The tool shows the 2027 formulary tier, pharmacy price and any coverage rules for each plan. 3. Pharmacy. Confirm the pharmacy you use is a "preferred" or "standard" network pharmacy under the 2027 plan — this can affect what you pay.

A few program-wide numbers to keep in mind as you compare 2027 drug coverage: CMS has confirmed the Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B standard premium, Part B deductible and IRMAA income brackets have not yet been announced; CMS typically publishes them later in the fall.

If you do nothing

Your current Aetna plan renews on January 1, 2027, with the changes described in its ANOC. Because four Houston-area Aetna plans were renamed, read the ANOC carefully — the plan on your 2027 card may have a different name even though it is, in CMS's records, the same plan.

If you want to switch plans or carriers, you can do it any time between October 15 and December 7, 2026. After that, Medicare Advantage members get a second window — the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, January 1 – March 31, 2027 — to make one change.
