The statewide numbers for 2027

From the CMS MA Landscape Source Files, Washington's 2027 Medicare Advantage market totals 115 plans from 15 carriers. All 115 include prescription drug coverage. Year over year, 33 plans are new for 2027 and 44 plans from 2026 are not returning. That churn is the single biggest reason to read your plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) this fall even if you are happy with your current coverage.

These counts describe the statewide landscape. A plan listed in the statewide total may or may not be offered in your specific county, which is why the Medicare Plan Finder search is based on your ZIP code.

Plan types and Special Needs Plans

Among the 115 plans, the type breakdown for 2027 is 64 HMO, 20 HMO-POS, and 31 PPO. HMOs generally organize care around an in-network set of providers; HMO-POS plans add a point-of-service option; PPOs typically allow both in- and out-of-network use under different cost-sharing rules. The specifics belong to each plan's Evidence of Coverage, not to a statewide summary.

Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are built for people who meet specific eligibility rules. Washington has 24 D-SNPs for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, 16 C-SNPs for people with qualifying chronic conditions, and 4 I-SNPs for people who meet an institutional level of care. If you may qualify for a SNP, confirm eligibility before enrolling.

The carriers offering plans in Washington for 2027

Fifteen carriers participate in Washington's 2027 Medicare Advantage market. In alphabetical order, they are Aetna (CVS Health), AgeRight Advantage, Centene (WellCare), Community Health Plan of WA Medicare Advantage, Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), HealthSpring, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Molina Healthcare of Washington, MultiCare Health Plan Medicare Advantage Evergreen Plans, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, Regence BlueShield, SCAN Health Plan, and UnitedHealthcare. The full carrier-by-carrier plan counts and plan types are rendered in the tables on this page.

Carrier size at the state level does not tell you what is available in your county, and it does not tell you how a given plan would work for your doctors, your prescriptions, and your pharmacy. Those answers come from the plan documents and the Plan Finder.

A step-by-step way to compare plans in your own county

A clean comparison usually follows the same order, regardless of which carriers show up for your ZIP code.

1. Make three lists before you start: the doctors and clinics you want to keep, the hospitals or health systems you prefer, and every prescription you take (name, dose, how often). 2. Read your current plan's Annual Notice of Change. Mailed each fall, the ANOC spells out what is changing for 2027 — including whether the plan itself is one of the 44 not returning. 3. Open the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov and enter your ZIP code. The tool will show only the plans actually offered in your county, out of the 115 statewide. 4. Enter your drug list once. Plan Finder will apply it across every plan you compare so you are looking at the same prescriptions each time. 5. Check doctors and hospitals in each plan's own provider directory, and confirm by calling the clinic. Directories can lag reality. 6. Check your pharmacies in each plan's pharmacy directory. Preferred, standard, and mail-order status can differ by plan. 7. For any Special Needs Plan you are considering, confirm you meet the D-SNP, C-SNP, or I-SNP eligibility rules. 8. Read the Summary of Benefits and, for the finalists, the Evidence of Coverage. Those are the binding documents.

What to do before December 7

Give yourself more than one sitting. A reasonable path is to gather documents in October, run Plan Finder in early November, make calls to confirm providers and pharmacies in mid-November, and lock in a decision with time to spare before December 7, 2026. Enrollment in a 2027 plan during this window takes effect January 1, 2027.

If you are keeping your current plan, you generally do not need to do anything — but still read the ANOC, because 44 plans are not returning for 2027 and your drug list, pharmacy, or provider situation may have shifted.
